Well, since the house in Minn-e-snowta burned down, I made the move to the valley of sun (Arizona, May 2012). Currently renting in Anthem, AZ about 35 miles north of Phoenix. Going to rent for a year figuring that will give me time to check out different areas and decide where to settle down. Right now thinking between here (no further south than Anthem) and Prescott.

I know we must have some dogs cruising the state, so where is the best place to have my ride serviced? Appreciate any info on that plus any good rides. If anyone wants to get together, let me know.

I have been thoroughly enjoying the sunshine (everyday) and the spectacular weather riding at night. It is just perfect. So far in the past week I have hit Prescott, Jerome, Wickenburg and Cave Creek. Heading back to Cave Creek (the Hideaway) tonight to see how things are.

So, to all the AZ BDM riders, where do I go for service? Thanks for any info you can provide.

Welcome to AZ Bruce!
I too hail from MN - been here about 4.5 years now and love it. I'm in far north Scottsdale - not far from Cave Creek and the infamous Hideaway. I've torn the Pitbull down, as I was tired of polishing billet, so I'm having the wheels, hubs, pulley, fender struts, fender braces all chromed - so I'm pretty much out for the month of June. But once I've got her back together, we'll have to get together for a ride. I've got a buddy with a Wolf in Gilbert, and another with a K-9 in Peoria that I ride with, so we'll have to get the dogs together at a bike night sometime.

As far as your service question - most of us seem to wench on them ourselves, but there are a couple places that do work on S&S - Ramjet Racing on Cave Creek Road in Phx and Skip Taylor who is an S&S guru. I've been hearing that some of the Harley dealerships are starting to work on bigdogs since the BD dealer network is gone.

Not much help - might just be a matter of calling around. There may be others here who know, but there aren't many bigdog's around the Phx area (at least I haven't seen many) so had to give a shout out. I sent you a PM with my cell number - we'll get together for a ride sometime and I can introduce you to the other BD guys.

Scott,
Thanks for the quick reply. I was out riding this evening when I started hearing what sounded like squealing from inside the primary. Reminded me of the same sound when coming back from Rolling Thunder in DC. last year. It turned out that the clutch basket was cracked and Fury ended up replacing the basket and clutch (upgrading to the bandit). Hopefully it might just be that the nut backed off.

As soon as I get a chance over the next few days I will take a look. I'm not much of a mechanic, but if it's something simple, I might as well give it a try. Looking forward to getting together with you and the guys for some riding. Met a couple of Harley guys at the Hideaway and Ramjet was one of their recommendations. That and a place called Biker Bay.

Hey Scott,

Another big welcome to AZ and sorry aboutbthe house in MN. I have an '07 K9, purchased new from Hacienda Harley when they were a BD dealer. Just got back from a two year assignment in the ME and had a few issues to deal with as the bike sat for months at a time.

Some options for you:

Trask Performance - Worked on my bike for several years, mostly without issues however the last time I had the tires changed the tech misaligned the rear wheel and I ended up shredding the drive belt about 3 miles from the shop. Nick Trask made it good but has been noticeably absent from the shop and I think that the work has suffered.

CLS Cycle - Yup, the guy who has a ton of bikes parked in front of his "shop" (it's his girlfriend's house) on Cave Creek Rd. just south of Carefree Highway. Dave, the lead tech, was the production manager at Titan before they went OOB. He's the only guy that is allowed to touch the customs. The owner, Cameron Smith, is a good shit. Warning - they're always backed up.

Prior to that the dealer did all my work.

I live near Cave Creek, send me a pm and I'll try to help any way I can.

I think ramjet might be your best bet. AIHSwank on here had them do his trans when it went on his AIH

If not Ramjet I would try scottsdale Harley that used to be Hacienda.
They worked on mine a couple times when I first got it. They have new ownership now and seem to be trying

Thats bad news about Trask. I sent them a email for a quote and got nothing.
In this economy they must be having problems

ramjet shaved my cylinders they were off .006 thats alot.. but they didnt think it was to bad...hacienda adjusted my carb and needed it readjusted a day later..its interesting with such a big comm that there arent to many shops to trust...trask at least stood behind his work there is one other place in scottsdale cave creek area custom builder thats good..best thing you can do is work on it yourself...just about everywhere you go around here is goona at least scratch it and keep it for awhile....i order my parts from mcgroom or john sachs and there price is always fair not to mention they help with there knowledge.. and even ck to see how it worked out...and it takes about the same amount of time by the time these yahoos get you the right part....most of the stuff is easy enough to fix any way..get the manuals....but as far as riding that would be great to get together sometime...the hideaway is great..my schedule been consumed lately with some family health issues and trying to raise my son...but would love to get together sometime...bill hey scott been awhile it would be nice to hit bike night somewhere...maybe main in mesa if its not to hot when your bike is up again..maybe i'll have mine dialed in by then..thinkin i need a clutch...really just want to put an open belt on..just no funds.see ya..

Well I would love to tear into the bike to figure out where the noise is coming from. It just sounds awfully familiar like when my baker clutch basket cracked. It has only been a year since the clutch / basket and tranny were replaced and I don't abuse the bike at all. Most of my rides have been long distance (MN to NH or DC and back).

Since I just got most of my stuff here this past Tuesday, I haven't had time to go through the tools, find or unpack much of the garage stuff. I did pull out some allen wrenches and took the primary cover off and the clutch / pack looked good. No indication of any contact on the interior of the outer primary cover. Everything seemed tight, no play or wiggle. However, I wouldn't know what to be looking for anyways.

I thought it might have been the rear rotor, maybe some dirt or something, but the noise will occur while the bike is sitting still. Noise is most noticeable when slowing (with clutch engaged). No creepage or slipping though. The lever feels strong also.

Maybe I will try calling Ramjet tomorrow, if they are open. It seems like a lot of dealers and service centers out here are closed on Mondays.

If anyone services their ride (things like pulling the clutch, tranny, etc.) let me know. I would love to be able to watch and get an idea of what I should be doing. I learn much quicker by watching how something is done, than by reading it.

I just want to make sure that whatever the issue is, I get it taken care of before it becomes a real problem and so it doesn't cut into the riding I want to do now that I am finally here.

I've noticed the same thing on mine ever since I got the rear tire changed a couple weeks ago. It only makes a squeel noise when the tranny is in gear and the clutch is pressed, while rolling the bike (doesn't matter if the motor is on or off). If I put it in neutral, and then roll, no noise, regardless if clutch is pressed or not.

Gotta find some time to get back to the shop.
