Seafoam

I run sea foam in mine. I don't see that it did much but the issue I was having turned out to be bad gasoline. Imagine that.

Do you think since 2005 to present the carb should be cleaned or its ok bike runs great
the key to any motor is to run it , and run it often.
seafoam, startron, quickclean, etc etc , are all to clean your fuel system after you let it clog up.
my 39 year old cx 500 runs well, never had a additive, yes it runs on ethanol.(so do my other bikes ,boat, and other motors around my place)
If you let the fuel sit in the system , and don't move it , it will cause problems ..
sounds like you are ok

Yea im might start running non ethanol
I run non ethanol in all my mowers, weed eaters, generator, jeep, utv and bikes. I make a trip every few months and bring home 50-70 gallons. If I have to buy on the road I try not to put any more than enough to get home and fill up when I get home. I also test before buying to make sure it is non ethanol.

Any marina or ebay will have test kits with instructions. Your mixing a small amount of water in the test tube with gas and shaking. Wait for it to settle, the water will draw all the Ethanol to it and you can see how much more water/clear fluid is in the bottom, and then do the math.

If it works - don't fix it. If it runs OK, plugs clean, etc no need to do anything. You can always drain the tank completely. Turn off the pitcock and idle the bike until it dies from running out of gas. That will get the gas out of the line . Then disconnect the line that loops to the carb and drain into an empty gas can. There are 4 screws that hold the float bowl under the carb - pull that and look for any crude or anything unusual.

No need to do it if bike runs fine and you do not suspect any probs with your tank liner. With respect to Sea Foam, as posted earlier, don't see how it could hurt the liner or anything - many boats use fiberglass tanks and if it's safe for that it would be OK in your tank.

Seafoam is good for carbon build up so for most of you guys with under 50k miles on it won't make a difference. On my custom when it hit 100k it started running badly. A guy I knew told me to put Seafoam in it for 3 - 4 fill ups. When I did and after the first fill up when I started the bike black pieces of carbon would come out the tail pipe. After 4 fill ups the bike was running good so I believe it works and I put 4 oz in every fourth fill up now.

If your worried about varnish buildup because it sat, there is a product called Berrymans b12 chemtool, its more specifically for fuel system clean ups, it's pretty potent shit though, use that for a clean out than seafoam for maintenance, I've used both, if you put an excessive ammount of seafoam in, be prepared for a smoke show. You can watch some videos on the you tube for comparisons if you feel the want to.

Thanks Bill for testimony of Seafoam working. I agree on B12, hav seen it work on motorcycles, boat motors, etc, and consumer digest a few years back rated it best & most potent, but an excellent mechanic friend says B12 is harsh(no lube) on parts and especially rubber seals(like in fuel injectors), etc. But I still like B12.
