I'm not a fan of rigid saddle bags- (they should be called "Samsoniters" not Baggers) but I'm still DELIGHTED I don't have to kick start any of my bikes so that tells Ya how old I am. Used to be that was a measure of a man if he could kick start his bike without it (a) throwing him over the handle bars or, (b) -and more often, not start at all.
Can't tell Ya how many times I took that darn Weber carb off to set the magneto. But, regarding saddle bags:
A retired navy chief built a BD saddle bag for his son-in-law a year or so ago Tony's a master machinist or something and built a wooden jig to shape the leather. He talked me through the whole process from buying half a cow hide at Tandy to cutting, shaping, dyeing AND HAND SEWING. OMG. It took several hundred stitches for the outside and $9.00 and 10 minutes at Gustavo's shoe shop to see the inside. Thanks Chief! My hands hurt for four days.
However(comma) I think it looks pretty good in my unbiased opinion. Not large but long hauls are not an option for me anymore.
Although the bottom is near the exhaust it doesn't scorch.
