S&S Teardrop Air Cleaner for K-9

Hi, I recently picked up a 2007 K9, love it! Thinking about replacing the spike with a classic look S&S teardrop S&S Super air cleaner! Was wonderingif the 378 front and 336 base be correct? I have a 117. The carb says "shorty" and on the bottom of the float 0388-S which leads me to believe it's a Super E carb instead of the bigger G. Mount bracket is for the spike. Thanks guys!

If it is an "E" carb, it can be bored to 44.5 mm or 45 mm ( same as a "G" carb). A/cleaner should work, as most S&S Tear drop, carb A/cleaner backing plates, fit "E" and also "G" carbs. :old2:
Thanks John! Fine with the bore for now. Just thinking of replacing the spike with a traditional teardrop. There seem to be a lot of variations. I saw this setup on a K9 at Strokers recently and I may have to go back to find exactly how they did it...

Looks like you got what you need to do the business right there. You will probably see a difference in performance once you are done swapping the spike out.

I might be a minority but I am not a fan of spike air cleaners .
I tried a snorkel type breather on another bike of mine and tried lots of jet sizes but could never get it dialed in. I believe the forced air just doesn't work well with a carb. With a carb using an unforced air cleaner, the vacuum will draw the amount of air needed. But a carb with jets cannot adjust itself for the vast amount of forced air and therefore cannot maintain the correct air/fuel ratio. The guy at Factory Pro Jets explained the pressure must be equalized, usually via some type of exit hole in the back. In my opinion only, fuel injected bikes do a better job with these setups than carbs.

S&S makes a kit for what you need. It comes with the slasher cover which should move a little more air. For more flow, you can upgrade the filter with the wider filter kit.
