staffy, thanks , but I want to go with the S & S. I have a buddy that went to a spike and had some issues.....went back to his original and then with a S&S and the bike tuned out better than with anything else. Love the way they look, but I'm after a more consistant flow that the S&S will provide.

What do you mean by Super air filter? Are you talking about the S&S High Flow Kit or are do you mean a stock set up?

Been away for a couple of days........yeah, Hooligan, the hi-flow kit.
What should they go for new. I've looked on the internet and the prices are all over the place.....problem is, they ALL will not tell you what your getting for the price. THey lead you to believe it"s a complete kit, which is what i want, but the prices range from $85.00 to $435.00....confused.

What do you need? Do you need the back plate? What year is your bike? Do you need breathers? Do you want extended filter or regular?

If you want a stock setup I can send you mine. It's the BDM air cleaner cover though not the S&S teardrop.

Mine is an 'o6 Mastiff. I have the stock BDM breather on it now. Just have been told that a S&S hi-flow would be better.....something about how it is radiused on the inside to feed air into the carb. Hell i don't know????????? Never claimed to be a mechanic or performance guru. Just trying to get the most outta my sickle........

The S&S High Flow Air Filter and Adapter Kit sells for $47.99 in J&P cycles 08 catalogue, it consists of the high flow air filter which is 1" taller than stock and 3 adapters that extend the air cleaner cover out 1". You can use the stock air cleaner cover with this setup if you want, it will fit. Or you can do what i did. I got the High Flow Air Filter and Adapter Kit and then i also bought the S&S Desperado ($124.99 in J&P) air cleaner cover which is the stock teardrop S&S cover except that it has slots cut in the front of it. I think it looks a little more custom. Also in J&P the company who makes the Green High Performance Air Filters sells the 1" standoff bolts for $27.99 and a filter for the High Flow Kit for $39.99. Its like a K&N but its neon green. I"ve checked everywhere and K&N does not make a filter for this kit yet. the filter that comes with this kit is a pre oiled paper one kind of cheesy. I plan on getting a Green filter this winter. And you use the stock backplate for these applications, I probably would have bought the Green filter and the standoff bolts they sell if I hadn't found the one i got. Mine came with everything I listed for around $115 on E GAY.

Ok, I don't think you will get anymore out of a teardrop cover over the BDM cover. The backing plate is the same on both. If anything you can get more air probably with the extended filter kit as Hooligan pointed out.

Have you replaced the paper S&S filter with a K&N or Green filter? That will allow it to breath better.

I have the same set up on my dog. Love it. Seems to have a little better response to it. Had to adjust the air to fuel and the accelrator pump.
