Rock in Belt

Just noticed a rock has got stuck in my belt. The rock was all the was through the belt. Pushed it out with a small phillips head. The hole was about the size of the end of a ink pen. After removing the rock the hole closed up. Got a ride going on friday. My question is will I make it there and back :D. Had to of happened on my last ride. Never had belt problems, so not sure if its ok to ride or is this sucker going to fly off as soon as I leave the house.

That Sucks!!!

I would clean and file the teeth on the pulley to match the original shape as much as you can, even if some material is gone. There is enough belt to pulley contact it shouldn't hurt.

The belt on the other hand, I would replace if the HOLE is through the entire belt. The belt inner reinforcment cords are now cut and the belt in that area is weakened.

It looks like the belt is off in the photo anyway.

I just wanta ride
I had the same experience but had a screw lodge in the tranny area it made a track all the way around the belt almost threw the bands. I rode it for about 2 weeks and got it changed. So with that said I would say yes but thats me. Others will chime in and give thier side.

Thanks guys.....The belts not off....about 2 years ago one of the bolt heads inside the clutch cover backed out and rubbed against the belt.

Rode a similar situation daily last summer for around two weeks till I got a new belt in -- I wouldn't miss a ride because of it.

Went on my ride yesterday....350 miles no problem with the belt. I've decided since the hole is dead center of the belt, I'm going to ride it till it breaks or starts getting worse. Got to thinking about it and I could get a new belt and just get another rock in that one too. :D

Just a thought , if you just let it go and don't replace the belt I am sure when it does break [and it will sooner or later] it will be some place convenient that stocks the belt and a tow truck won't be needed because you will be right in front of the shop. You spent big bucks for your bike why cheep out and not take care of it. again just a thought.

Harley has an emergency belt kit for about $100. I carry one on my road glide. Could be the best $100 spent when your stuck somewhere.

I'll either walk home or call somebody to come and get me.....Fix it and ride again. :D If I worried about everything that could break everytime I got on my bike, I would never leave the house.

Gotta say penny wise pound foolish, I have 43 years on the road and well over 300,000 miles . Have never had a break down because I fix it right and don't cheep out. My bikes are my passion and I take good care of them.
