rear wheel assembly

Took the rear wheel off my buddies 04 ridge. Spacers dropped out before I could see how they went back in. There are 2 spacers that go right up against the wheel. One side of the spacer is flat and the other side has a little lip. Does anybody know which way they go back? Does the lip face in towards the wheel or out towards the swingarm. Thanks.

Forgive my ignorance. Towards the frame! Thanks guys. That's what I though just wanted to double check. Seriously who buys hardtails anyways.
