Rear Tire Issue

OK all,

You guys have ALWAYS been awsome at helping me resolve issues, so here goes...I I have an 04 Chopper that had a Avon Venom 250 on the back. Picked up a nail and brought it in for a free replacement since I bought the tire coverage. Problen is, the replacement for that is a Avon Cobra. The problem is that I believe the Cobra profile is a little bit wider, and now my belt rubs (not constantly....there is about a 1/8th in gap...but I can push the belt into it...). I'm concerned cause I'm going to Florida for 3 weeks and taking my bike. Anyone know where I can get a new Avon Venom?

No such thing as a "new" venom. If you have 1/8" clearance, you'll be ok. I have less than 1/16" clearance on my 300 with no issues. First I've heard that Avon Cobra is wider than the Venom. Most the threads have been in regards to the Metzler 300 being a bit wider than the Cobra 300.

I'm on my second Cobra, never notice any difference with width on my 05 Chopper.

it could just be that the tire is adjusted a little different than the last tire. check (or have checked) the alignment again. agree with brad on the small amount on my K9.

Avon no longer makes the Venom. Cobra is all you can get other than an old Venom. Never had an issue when I switched them out.

The Cobra is actually about 1/8" wider overall than the Venom. Took a palm sander and knocked off a little of the lip on mine

Had wider than stock tire on my Harley for several thousand miles. It didn't even have the thickness of a credit card between it and the belt, but it worked fine with no problems and little if any rubbing.

I'm trying out the Dunlop elite 3 and its wider than both and my clearance is good. I agree with woodbutcher . Check your alignment.

What size Elite 3 are you using? I used a 240 and it didn't seat on bead area of the rim well.
