Rear Cylinder Has A Miss

:bang: :bang: Just got through replacing the EHC took it out for a quick spin and it ran better than the dog has ever run, when I went to start it the compression release was not working found a pin that was not pushed in all the way fixed that and now the rear cylinder has a miss. Checked all the wiring again and again, checked the coil to plug wire, checked the spark plug. The coil seems to ohm out but I'm not sure what it should read. Is there a way to check the coil while the bike is running? Do these coils go bad for what ever reason usually coils last for ever but then its a BD so throw thought out. Its always something. Even switched plug wires and plugs didn't help. All the wires to the coil ohm okay. It sure seems like electrical and not fuel. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

have you checked for compression? Also, straighten out the ground electrode on the plug and check for spark again - a good spark should be able to jump the bigger gap - you might have spark but it might be weak. Could also be ignition timing (cam / crank sensor?). Have you done any voltage drop testing? You might have continuity but that doesn't mean you're getting enough current through. You can actually make a coil tester - let me come back to you on that one.

STARTS, BUT RUNS IRREGULARLY OR MISSES:
1. Spark plugs in bad condition or partially fouled.
2. Spark plug cables in bad condition or have been detached (be sure to check both ends of
each spark plug cable).
3. Spark plug gap too close or too wide.
4. Battery nearly discharged.
5. Damaged wire or loose connection at battery terminals or coils.
6. Intermittent short circuit due to damaged wire insulation.
7. Water or dirt in fuel system, filter, or carburetor
8. Fuel vent system plugged.
9. Air leak in intake manifold.
10. Air filter clogged.
11. Defective ignition module.
12. Defective ignition coil.

Installed new plugs, checked plug wires very closely, plugs gaped at 40, battery fully charged also new, battery connections good, connections good at coil, will check other things mentioned closer. Another weird thing since I put the Wire Plus modules in I have to hit the run button twice before the bike will start it just sits and cranks if the button is not pushed twice then it fires and has the miss it smells like it is ruining to rich, the emergency blinkers don't work either. Is it possible that the compression release has gone south because after I got it to work the miss suddenly appeared. I have to agree with the many comments that the dealers suck they think they know but they have no experience with the DOGS. I am beyond frustrated I wish the damn thing would burn to the ground at least I could collect the insurance and get a bike that will run.

If it was running fine and you got your compression releases working then it's possible the release is hanging up on the rear cylinder. No understanding the pin deal since I thought it was a EHC pin.

Are you sure that the new wire plus module is wired correctly? Did all this start before or after the wire plus install?

Being that you have changed plugs, wires and checked the ignition coil connection and all seems OK, then check for spark in the rear cylinder. If you have spark and it still missing then either your compression release for that cyclinder is stuck or the wire connection is not making good contact, which is causing the compression release to stay in the open possition.

Good Luck :2thumbs:

Also check the wiring at the coil. My buddies bike was wired wrong. The yellow wire goes to the front terminal on the coil. His bike would run but didn't sound right. Changed wires problem gone. This was also the result of an EHC & Ignition module change.

look at the Ignition Module while the bike is running... if the blue light is flickering that means the crank sensor is sending a signal to the IM for the back cylinder. Yellow is for the front cylinder. Also wires for the coil are the same, blue back and yellow front with red in the center. Hope that helps narrow things a bit. Also may want to check for loose connection at EHC just in case it has come partly undone.
