Rear Brake Howl

2002 Bulldog...Just had it inspected, and fluids changed...I needed rear brakes, they said were down to the end, just about to be metal to metal...Very little score... The shop installed new rear brakes, but now I get a "howl" when under 10mph, coming to a stop..When I apply rear brake, or just touch it, it seems to disappear...The rotor seems a little dark...Dont know if brakes are hung up, in the applied position, the rotors warped...Never happened till they changed the brakes...

Does the rear wheel drag if you roll it with back wheel off the ground. If you pushed the brake pucks into the caliper, this would move away from the disc. Does the disc freewheel? That says no bearing problem.

Does the back wheel drag when you pump the brake back up after the pads being pushed in? Then you need the rear caliper rebuilt. This is a 2002 bike so have you ever changed out the brake fluids every 2 years say? No? This could point to the pad squeak problem.

If the bike freewheels fine, the pads retract and do not hang up on a pedal push, meaning, then the pads could use a cleaning as with the disc. Remove pads. Scrub each pad on a clean cement walkway. Do not use sandpaper. Just rough up the pad's surface and you are done. Clean the disc with brake cleaner. Install pads, test ride.

Check to see if things are indeed rubbing as Sven suggests. You may have a stuck caliper piston. Happened to me. Simply pull the entire caliper and tear it down. Super simple. I had to remove and clean both pistons. Not a problem since. You can order o ring kits from Performance Machine.

Took bike back to where brakes were done...There are a few grooves in rotor, which against the flat pad, is making the howl, similar to a record player they said..... There is no drag, or hang up of the brakes.....Any suggestions of an after market rortor that will fit the 2002 Bulldog? Will probably change rotor and brakes after this season...

P.S.

Pad material vs. steel is the pads are cheaper to replace than the disc. You might windup with the same situation. My guess is break-in, heavy one the rears, disc pad material is not compatible or not broken in. Cement is you noise remover.
