Read-facing Reflectors - Texas

Like most folks that buy a new Big Dog, one of the 1st things I did after I bought my 2008 Mastiff was to remove all the reflectors. I've been driving this thing without the reflectors for a little over two years now with no issues.

So... I took my bike for service this past weekend and, on the way home, got pulled over and ticketed for expired inspection. My tags were expired as well (I'd had the bike getting painted for a couple of weeks) but officer let that slip (even though that's what he pulled me over for). He told me "no biggie, just get your bike inspected, take your receipt to municipal offices, show proof... etc. and you'll not have to pay the fine. Just a small fee".

So, I took my bike in yesterday to get inspected (wish I'd known while bike was getting serviced :angry at the local Harley shop in Round Rock, TX and was told they couldn't pass my bike because it had no rear reflectors!

I was like "I brought this bike in last year for inspection and you passed it then!!!" They were like "sorry, but can't do it". So, I ran to the local automotive shop, bought some reflective tape, put it on top of the license plate, got inspection passed, drove home, and promptly removed the tape.

Anyone else ever encounter this?

Only had to have reflectors when I went to the DPS office to get my DL,they inspect it before you test(I put some sticky ones at the end of my frame rails,then took them off after the test.). I just had mine done 2 months ago and had no problems at all,even my sticker is at the bottom of my flipped plate on the back and they didnt say anything about not being able to see it,they just put it right where the old one was. Just stay away from the BIG dealers,keep "mom and pop" running by giving them your business on all your needs. Except when you need service or warranty work, take your dog down to Anthony @ Mancuso's off the Gulf Freeway. Guy is sharp and appreciates the business and "HIS" customers.

I took mine off too and never had a problem with inspections or being pulled over for no reflectors. When I deal with a BDM dealership, I can't recommend Joe Harrison Motorsports enough, they are off I-35 in San Antonio. I would find another place to get your inspection done.

I take my dog to Firestone and pass without reflectors. Last time I had it inspected I even had one front turn signal that was out and the guy told me that in Texas turn signals are not required on a motorcycle. I don;t know, but I passed. I will take the reflectors in my pocket next time I go there just in case

We have to have a passive reflective device on our bikes to get our DOD sticker in Camp Pendleton. Any other base I've registered a bike at never cared but this one requires it for some reason. I just use a strip of reflective tape like you did.
