quick connect pushrods

I am intalling quick connect pushrods and the first three were easy but font inside one is a problem for some reason.

I cut out the old rod and collapsed the new quick connect and tried sliding it up into the rocker box as I did the others but it wont go up high enough to slide the bottom over the tappet block like I did on the other ones its almost there but wont clear it.

any advise on what the problem might be , if I dont get it installed this weekend Im going to have to get into the shop I imagine?

I believe so .I rolled it untill both rods were at there lowest point ,I realize how the cam needs to be at its lowest point but what about at the top, in the rocker box is there some way to raise and lower up in there ,it needs to go in the rocker box first then it can go down inside the tappet box but in wont go up and in the rocker box enough to slide it over the tappet box almost makes it?

No. The Quickie pushrods have nothing to do with the cam loaction during the install. If I read correc the pushrod will not shorten enough to clear the lifter base to install it? You might check your instructions to see if any of the pushrods are longer than the other. If they are you may have installed them in the wrong locations. also check to make sure the pushrod that you are installing has been turned down to its lowest point. I have installed both S&S and Crane time saver pushrods ( Crane being the hardest) and they still had a slight difference in length. Check thar first and go from there.

What brand of pushrods did you buy?

I would agree with V. Not sure about the collapsible push rods but the stock ones are different lengths.

they ordered me s&s but after reading your thread I went and checked the package they came in and it says 84-99 and mines a 2004 and since found out these are 2 differeent lengths and the 99 and later are the same length so I tyook the one that I have installed out of the front cylinder and tried to install int in the one I have had the problem with ,which is also in the front on the inside of the motor closes to the head and it is the same proble it wont fit . wtf?

PS I paid 179.00 for the rods , is that the going price?

You might want to pull them all and check the main shaft length of each. The part about 1984-1999 is correct but you still need to make sure that they are for a 117. Also make sure when you install the tip of the push-rod is in the rocker arm pocket so it will go in.

Somebody correct me if I am wrong on this

Front exhaust- longest
rear exhaust - shorter
Front intake- shorter
rear intake - shortest

I have a 107 motoror and here is a pic of the one I am having problems installing it when it is in the pocket it will not clear the tappet block try to go off to the side and it is cock eyed and do not want to try to force it in there .

is the one in the pic they one that would require the shortest shaft because it looks like there are 2 that are a lil shorter than the others , i tried them and they wont fit either?

Yes, the one you are pointing to should have a shorter push-rod. It's the front intake as V stated above. By the way V you are correct, thats direct out of the manual.

Okay thanks for the help , there must be something wrong because I did try the shorter one there and cant get it in for some reason .something wrong up top I imagine . I will have a tech check it out before I fuck something else up,lol

Does the front exhaust pushrod get in the way? Might (if you haven't) remove the front exhaust to give it one more shot and putting in the the intake pushrod. For soem reason I think when I put them in I started with the intake rods and then did the exhaust rods.

I did originally but took it back out thinking the same as you and tried it again still no go . It camw with two longer rods the same length and two shorter rods the same length tried the shorter of course . I tried everything execpt force and dont want to do that , talked to a tech nearby and hes coming tomorrow after work to pick it up, dont know what else to do.

yes they did but for some reason there was one I could not get in to sacve my life ,the others were a piece of cake tho.

the tech got it in altho he didnt tell me how he did it,lol
