Questions? Re-using Dyna Beads.

If there is a 'How-To' thread already on this, please post a link. (I did a search but couldn't find one).

I have beads in my tires and soon have to get new tires.

My questions are:

1. How do I (or the shop changing tires) collect all the beads? (do they settle in the bottom of the old tire or are they all over the place due to static electricity?) Do you have to vacuum them out with like a filter sock in the vacuum hose?)

2. Assuming you can collect them all, can you put them in the tire while changing, OR do you have to put them in through the stem as you did when you first got them (after the new tire is sealed to the rim) ?

3. Do you have to clean them in any way before re-use?

4. As an afterthought I should ask, Do the dyna beads wear out (from rolling around and colliding with each other)?

I would appreciate any info or experience from members who have re-used their beads and perhaps they could create a thread in the 'How-To' section on how they have done this.

The DynaBeads are a ceramic material and normally won't carry a static charge.

We have reused them in the past but you need to break and open the tire rim bead on one side, remove the tire from the machine and dump out the beads into a clean container. There will be some broken and pulverized beads and some powder inside. We just saved the whole beads to reuse. Then replace and ADD some additional based on total good beads remaining through the valve stem again.

Lately we just BUY new DynaBead kits instead of messing with the old on the tire changer.

I just reused mine on my rear tire because I didn't have enough. Just clean them up. But I would just buy if I had time though.

I think since they are ceramic they will wear out eventually - hence why they break apart over time I would assume.

I would recommend just buying some new ones unless you are short and use a couple old ones to make up the weight. Plus I bet it would be a pain in the ass to collect them all after you break the bead on the tire and they fly everywhere.

Can I reuse the beads in my next set of tires?
A: Sure, all of our beads are reusable once. We do not suggest trying to reuse any more than once, because you may run into problems with moisture in the tire, and it may vibrate. For motorcycles/scooters, the amounts are so small that it really isn't worth the hassle.

When I have changed my tires out they are settled in the bottom and some are pulverized as said above. I just put new ones in myself to get the best performance out of the tire. Try to keep spare beads by buying in bulk. They will pour right out anyway. Old tire just discarded so I never have worried about cleaning it or gathering the beads anyway...
Look and see if the tire has grooved on the inside from them anyway rolling around. I have seen this on some of mine..

They will collect at the bottom but I always keep a big bag of them in the toolbox so just replace them. I did think about saving them but didn't.

I was just thinking about this same thing. I take my wheels off and take them for new tires when getting replacements. Whenever I need to get a tire replaced with the beads installed, I'm going to drill a hole in the tire and get as many beads out as possible so the shop doesn't have to mess with them. Guess it will work.

Just put some in both my bikes. Very easy. once you remove your valve stem you attach plastic clear tube from valve stem to clear plastic bottle holding dyna beads, use an electric engraver (yes,the one you used as a kid) touch the side of the engraving needle to the plastic tube and the beads just role through the valve stem. Then replace the valve stem innards and inflate back to 40 psi. I did both tires on my Big Dog Chopper & my HD Ultra Classic in about an hour.

I cut my tire in half with a utility knive for easy removal and scooped out the beads and reused. I put them in a baggie and put them back in before I mounted the last bead on the tire.
