Q for those who installed Kury Paint Saver

I have searched and still not found an answer:
I bought the Kuryakyn Flush Mount paint saver. The instructions say to use the included OEM Style Gasket (a rubber seal) and tighten to snug.

Question to any of you that have installed these, are you getting any gas leaking pass the seal?

You definitely should not. Any gas getting under that seal will start breaking down the paint, and will eventually creep out from under the saver.

That's correct, as long as you use the correct ones sent to you. They should've sent you (2) different sets if I'm not mistaken.

I took a little added precaution and put some dope on the threads when I installed them. Haven't had a leak yet.

Just be sure you snug them up pretty good.

What type did you get?

Thats what I was really looking for... what Dope did you use? JB weld or something else?

You can go to any hardware store and get you some dope for fuel/gas pipes. I think it rand me about 4 bucks for a small tube. Off hand I'm not sure the name brand though. I'm at work and there is noone home to get me the info on it for you.

It's a whiteish type of paste looks like tooth paste.

Did you already take your paintsavers out of the tanks? When I pulled mine I also put on a thick coat of my wife's clear extra hardening nail polish around the hole to really seal the painted area around the bung hole.

Yup pulled the old ones off, then got my new paint job.... painter continued the paint to the top thread inside the bug opening.

That's cool. I would just use the pipe dope making sure that it's on there pretty thick. If you were to add some JB weld then you would have to get all of the paint out of the bung area. You might want to pass this on to your painter. Tell him what you are going to do and ask for any suggestions.

My opinion is that you shouldn't have any issues with the pipe dope because it will seal perectly (providing the application) and it doesn't harden like JB Weld or anything of that sort. That way in the future if you wanted something different it would be done without the hassle of fuckin' anything up.
