Purchased a 04 BD chopper less than a day ago and left me walking

rode around all day got home waited for the old lady we went for a ride. This morning rode to work and it died. Wasn’t getting any fire and the brand new battery just died after a couple cranks. Got it home put a charger on it and 20 min later fires up. I put a voltage meter on it and it had 12.8v off. after starting it’s 13.1 then 1200rpm it charges 14.1v so I got in it rode up the rode a few blocks turned it off the the same thing happened when I tried to start it back up no fire. I asked a local bike shop he said there is no way to fix it rip all the wiring out and wire it up like a Harley for $2000. Is this my only option I have no idea where to start trying to narrow down my problem. Can anyone help please

Afterut crank with no fire the ehc flashes the. It stops cranking until I hit stop and run before I try starting and it will do a half crank and stop while the ehc flashes again

Did that fix your problem? I still can’t figure out why my new battery is shitting out even with the charger on it and at 13.4 volts it clicks like battery is dead

I might've missed spoke after re-reading your symptoms.
Mine never would not crank.
It would just die after warming up.
I took the seat off and noticed the ignition module wasn't acting right, not flashing while cranking.
I load tested the battery and it would drop below 8 Volts while cranking. Battery would take a charge and look good otherwise so I changed out the battery. Bike would turn over fine but then die after warming up. Ignition module still not flashing while cranking so I took a chance and change the camp sensor thinking the ignition module was powering up but wasn't getting a signal from the cam sensor.
If you're running the original EHC I would pull the connector make sure it's clean put a little dielectric on it and hold it down while cranking and see if it starts.
So good strong battery with terminals good and tight.
Clean and tight connections on the EHC.

On my ignition module some times the light comes in solid red then goes off when cranking and that’s when I get no fire. The. I can come back to it later and hit run it come on and i start cranking and it blinks and I get fire and it will start run for a couple min and die. But other times I won’t even get the red light to come on the ignition module. But the red light comes on in the ehc

I don’t know the cca on the battery it’s a new interstate battery I had to wait to have put on before i picked it up. At idle it’s 13.1v 12-1400 it’s 14.1v what are the odds of having dead cell in a new batt.

Plenty of dielectric grease on ehc connector good and tight connection there and on battery also. I was wondering about cam sensor myself. Is that specific to big dog or is it one I can get locally and retro fit the connectors ?

It can be a retrofit

Somthn local Harley store would have? In stock possibly? What should I ask for a can sensor for a evo engine. Any specific year?

When I bought my bike the owner had just put a new battery in and it was a 270cca battery. Didn't find out til later that BD needs minimum of 330cca. Changed it out and it made a big dif. Sounds like you got another problem above my pay grade but somebody on here knows and will chime in. Just keep checking your thread here, sometimes gets a lil slow on w-ends. I know that many have had your type grimlins.

Another thing I forgot to mention is my headlight is running on brights only and won’t go to dim when I push the switch to change from bright to dim the blue indicator light on my gauge flickers is what I would call it. Would that be the bulb? All the turn signals work horn every thing just won’t go to dim setting. I read somewhere on here I think. That when the dim filament goes out it runs it on high beams. And advice on that would be much appreciated also thanks!!

You are correct. When low beam blows, it switchs to high beam (blue dash lite). If both go out it may blow your fuse or circuit breaker. It did on my 04 Pit fwiw. Pull the headlight apart and see if you have the dreaded melted plug? If so Curtis @ WSW has a ceramic replacement.

Might as well switch to an LED headlight while you’re at it. $50 for a day maker clone on Amazon. Sounds like a cam sensor issue like others have said, if it’s the ignition module from Thunderheart, I think they are getting harder to find. I had to replace both on my 03 and Curtis at wildsteedworx.com was able to help me. Keep us posted.
