Pro Pad seat insert - is it worth it ?

I found a local shop that specializes in bike seats.

Decent guy, not super cheap, but he had the same faux 'gator vinyl in stock and he'll modify the 2-up seat pan to fit my K9, including extending the tip to snug up to the tank like it should.

My question to those who have Pro Pad inserts - would you recommend it and would you do it again ?

It's about 50% more money, and I've seen at least one complaint about it.

Mr. Wright

Knows some things
They put a gel pad in mine, but it's buried under 2'' of foam. I know mine is comfortable, but I don't know if it's because of the gel. They put the gel under the foam, because the gel holds heat, and will bake your nuts.
Back in the old days, (I never thought I'd ever be saying that), but back when we traveled more on the bikes, we just brought along some foam rubber, or a woolie. The nice thing about having it on the outside of the bike, was you could move it around while you were riding, so your butt could make that last 50 miles before stopping.

All of my buddies have the gel inserts in their big dog seats and they all love them.

....but those guys are members here, right ?

I figured this would have been a more popular modification and people would have testimonials for or against.

I have gel in mine and it's worth the money. I've only dealt with Scott on this forum and not sure if it's technically the ProPad brand or I just know its gel and it does help

Same here, Scott did mine also. Gel inserts with memory foam, difference was night and day.

Yep he's done two seats for me, one he just added gel the other bike I had him reshape it a bit to put me right where I wanted to be.

Seats are like mattresses in terms of comfort some are good for some people and sucks for others.

Thanks guys. This latest seat needed some pan modifications that can only be done with the bike, so I didn't have much choice. Mean City did my solo saddle, and I purportedly got memory foam in it. Unfortunately it's hard as a rock and my butt is killing me WAY before 100 miles, hence my skepticism.

The local guy I'm working with now just has the regular blue foam that is pretty soft, and the ProPad inserts. I think I'll probably go for it. If it really is great I can get it added to the other one and hopefully get some relief.

I think memory foam isn't a great idea on a bike, it compresses and stay compressed and takes a few seconds to go down and return to shape so bumps don't seem comfortable.

I love my memory foam mattress, however can see an issue on a bike seat

Finally got the 2-up seat back, with the Pro Pad. You'll see pics in my other thread about it. Wife and I rode 220 miles today. First 50 were fantastic. Next 50...........started to hurt, just like the other seat.

Then we ate lunch and headed home. The 100 miles home seemed a little better. Definitely WAY better than the stick-on P-Pad though.

I don't how much you ride but it takes some "conditioning ' for the longer motorcycle rides.
This is why we see so many low milage bikes for sale and I'm not talking just about Big Dogs. Lots of People just won't push to get the miles . Just my opinion.

I am also continuously amazed at how few miles people put on them. I've already put 20% of the miles on the bike in my first winter. :)

The Gathering and BBBBQ trips planned too.

I rode my Harley every day when I had it, but never really took trips on it. I guess that's how it works - daily trans or toy. Few folks would do both I supposed.
