Primary Oil Level??

Ok so I probably already know the answer to this question but need reassurance. If you over fill the primary can it cause your gears such as first n second to slip a little and make them not want to come out of hear into neutral? Or while putting on lift did I maybe pinch the clutch cable? I don't think I pinched anything cause all was working fine lost that inner primary belt and lost quite a bit of oil so pulled inspection cover off and added some to spec height. Then buttoned everything up. But now it is hard to get into neutral and in and out of 1st n 2nd??? Does not slip once there thru all gears just acting up in between 1st an 2nd.

Any suggestion please let me know. Just had clutch adjusted and everything so was running freakin great!!

I don't think excess oil in primary is going to cause any of the problems you are experiencing. Sounds like clutch adjustment not right.

I would agree with you if it where not the fact it was running GREAT no slippage nothing before I put it on the lift and installed lost bolt and added primary oil. Clutch adjustment would just go like that unless the cable just broke. I think.

Anyway still stumped thanks for your input tho!!

Just found the answer! I knew that's what it was but ready a second opinion!! If you over fill and get oil into the clutch case it will make it hard to find neutral and also cause some drag there.

So should I just drain some out? I never overfilled ANY of my bikes before!

What do you mean with "to spec height"?

The Level for the Primary is just "32 Oz" !

If you really think you overfilled it.... I would drain it all and then refill it with 30 oz only (There is always some left inside is you don´t remove the cover)

The oil in the primary is in with the clutch, it is a WET clutch. You would have to massively overfill. Your problem is elsewhere.

This won't help the slippage issue but did you lube your heim joints on the shift rod. Sometimes that binds up and makes shifting hard. As for the fluid level, I'd do what Franco suggested.

too much oil in the primary will cause you problems with oil forcing it's way through the seal around the starter shaft and into the starter. BAD!!! will also work it's way into the transmission, also BAD. primary should ONLY be 32oz.

With all due respect ,You are absolutely right. But , it should not cause clutch slippage or make it hard to get into gear.

Well I will just drain it and go back to 32oz. You can visually check your levels thru the inspection cover and I have done so many times just to check when I have had leaks before. And from what I read yes the hard getting into Nuetral can be caused by over filling but the more I road it the better it got. I would think it was something else if it where not for the fact it was perfect before just replacing bolt and adding some oil.

But better safe then sorry I will drain it tomorrow and start all over again...............

Thanks everyone!

Just so you know the clutch is NOT slipping its like 1st and 2nd hang up a bit and hard to get into neutral. But no slipping in any gear at all! Reminds me when I too my Muncie Rock Crusher 4-Speed tranny in my 70 Nova SS and flipped the linkage for 3rd and 4th gear over cause the ratio or linkage was so close it would sometimes get hung up going from 2nd to 3rd cause the linkage would rub. So after flipping 3rd was now over and down and would slide right in with no problemthen slam up for 4th!!

Any decent mineral based will work. Just tried a new one from HD. Its ok. Havent noticed any major difference tho.

I do not know what year your bike is, but the change the amount of oil in your primary. 32 oz. is for by 03 because it has the wider cover, check with Mr. Wright or Knothead for right amount as it is lower like 22 oz.
