I don't have a owners Manual and I am not able to read everything on my ipad so I don't have much of a clue what everything is. I did a video if you guys can watch and tell me what you think.

Thanks

My 2008 Service Manual says to press down and then up on the upper chain location and it should deflect between 5/8 and 7/8 inch when in the tightest position if adjusted when cold. You measure the top chain almost straight up from the chain adjuster. Good video. Your chain looks a little slack to me but not much. You should get a service manual and owners manual.

Dlandbob, Please go back into your original post and edit it to include the reason (in detail) of why you tore apart the primary.

It's also helpful to include what correct model & year dog you own in your "My Bike:" information on the left side of screen.

You mentioned "clunk". Is this while sitting idleing, starting out, slowing down with clutch engaged, downshifting, upshifting, coasting, need the info. Does the trans shift okay without any noticable difference.
While you were moving the clutch pack around with both hands (not rotating it) side to side, I though I could see some trans mainshaft movement. Could have been a video thing.

If you do decide to adjust the primary chain, you will find that sometimes the adjustment notches for the wear pad bracket teeth don't always want to mesh together at the best chain tension. If this happens adjust it to the next looser tooth engagement position. Better to leave it a bit loose than too tight and not stress the clutch basket and bearings.

IMO.. I don't recommend decelleration downshifting. I feel this contributes to loosening the clutch nut and other related failures. I downshift with the clutch disengaged just before I roll to a stop. It's not as manly but It's how I treat my dog. ... IMO

Your chain is to loose. Adjust it to where on the top chain there will be about an inch of travel up to down. Also there should be no play in your rotor. When you put your fingers on it and pushed it made a metal to metal noise and I could see it moving. Your rotor splines might be worn and allowing some wobble play to it. As for your clutch basket its hard to see on the video but grabbing ahold of it was there any play in the basket doing a push/pull on it. If so your clutch hub nut has backed off or its the shim I talked about in an earlier post.

Two things for sure, your chain is way to loose and your rotor shouldnt have any play in it.

Sorry I started a new post about the same issue, I am on my IPad and it is a pain to search when my hands were greases. I heard a clunk after I let the clutch out if I am in gear or in the bike is just sitting there. I can rev the engine and I hear the clunk as it revs down. So the rotor would be the big thing that looks like a flywheel? It moves only left to right, I guess it is time to take the clutch out and see if the nut came loose like so many other bikes here that I have read about. I have more time reading than actually wrenching on my bike. I hope it's only the clutch Hun not.. If I take the clutch out, do I need anything special or a press to put it back on?

Thanks

Dland the EPA just loves you! The only thing I can see is as mentioned, your chain may be a little loose.

I took part of it apart and it is loose, I can't find a diagram to see how it all works. I have the clutch off with all the little rings with teeth off, I see two Alen head bolts inside and a giant nut that the clutch pushrods is sticking out from. I barley had to use any force to take the four bolts of the clutch, they were very lose, maybe a couple of pounds. Anyone know where I can get a diagram or know step by step how to take this apart?
