Power cones

Has anyone seen the Khrome Werks power cones you put in your exhaust? Does anyone know if they work? For only $20-$30 they might be worth a try.

Here is a link to some background info. I thought interesting because the exhaust can make one of the biggest differences in performance and looks but the two don't always go together.

Looks kind of like they just add a little backpressure so, you're supposed to see a big increase in midrange power with something like this over completely open pipes.

Lots of folks here just took their stock baffles out and cut them in half and re-installed the baffles.

Others have gotten these, although they're more expensive than the one's you've listed there.

Your basically choking your engine or putting a step in the pipe. You may as well cut down your baffles. I think cutting them in half is the best performance option. I've run mine with them in and completely out. With them in you have gobs of torque but falls off sharply top end. I took them out and now lost alot of the bottom end but it is wicked fast up top especially with the .600 camshaft. I think cutting them in half would be a good compromise and I just may do that to mine eventually.

I've run stock BR baffles, cut down stock baffles and the Big City Thunder and I personally like the BCT the best.

Had the same experience as Vegas on a set of Ness Side-outs. Ended up running without the tourque cones and a set of BCT baffles. I wanted the response at the higher end as I do most of my day darting thru cagers on the highway...

I have BR on the chopper (from V&H not BDM) and just removed the baffles completely. Had to re-jet after adding the spike intake, but love them. We talked about adding power cones before (BDM service manager) but decided in the end not to do it. May have lost some of the low end, but then again I don't take the chopper to the dragstrip either.

Gonna have to try taking my original exhausts and cutting them up though after reading through all the threads. If for nothing else than to see how much louder they get.

Seat the power booster is the fuel atomizer.... which is also part of getting it XXX'ed.

I have heard these cones are BS. But I have no data to support... maybe some of the other guys like Alhall or Sul will.

I just installed some cones today, got them on e-bay, search power cones, don't know about HP/TQ I don't know where to get a dyno done, running the Martin Bros Trixstas, I still have popping on downshift and haven't really taken a road cruz yet, but what do I know I just started rolling, :loony: step by step.

I had them on a set of open drag pipes I had on my old shovelhead. I really didn't notice that they made a difference. Putting baffles in those drags made life better. But that was a 74" motor. Based on my experience I would say skip 'em.

There is the Theory that Power Cones do Nothing for you on anything over 100CU, One of my Brothers was Running em on a 113 and eventually he took them out. I'll talk to him about what and why.

So what was the verdict? what did your brother have to say about the cones?
I'd like to take advice from people who've tried them out ....guess I got caught up in the sale pitch and the SHINEY new toy :D

Which size Big City Thunder Monster baffles did you order for your V&H Big Radius pipes? I want to order some for my 07 K9, but want to make sure I get the right size. Do you recall which ones you bought?

Just buy the used ones Gas Man has for sale in this thread:

http://www.bigdogbiker.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1117&page=2

"I'm also going to add a slightly used set of Big City Thunder Baffles for sale. $40 shipped"

"The Big City thunder baffles are 1 7/8" for 2" OD pipe part #2002"

Or, just Google Big City Thunder and then call the dude on the phone - nice guy - he'll send you the right ones.

i've run 9 or so differant pipe set ups on my k-9. none for any length time with baffles. i've also run with and with cones. my prefferance is with cones. i like the over all feel though all the gears. with the new pipes i just built there is a solid pull though all gears with no drop off at top end.
cones are designed to increase back pressure just as baffels. of course they don't produce as much.

BIG AL, these are little more quite than the big pipe i had on there. LOL
