popping and backfiring

hi guys....been a while since ive been on here...anyways.ive noticed at around 60-65 mph.the tach and speedmeter needles go crazy..give it slightly more throttle and it pops and backfires....only thing ive done previously was install new CRANE COIL and plug wires,but that was done several months earlier...ive checked all the wires that i can,but cant find the problem...hoping someone might know the solution....many thanks for any and all advice.....:cheers:

sounds like it's time to do a tune-up on the carb. could be gum in the jets from the ethanol.

thanks WOODBUTCHER......i run SEA FOAM thru it a lot....just kinda thinkin its an electrical issue,tha way the tach and speedo needle go crazy...

Check your charging system. See if the voltage regulator is working correctly and go from there. Check all your connections at the battery. Positive and negative. also check where everything grounds to the frame.

Some on here including my self had issues with using different plug wires with the stock EHC. I tried using the Magnum Sterling Chromite II Spark Plug Wires and the bike ran like shit at high speeds. I put the stock wire back on and wa la things worked normal. Give that a try and see if it corrects the problem.
