I use the plain white teflon tape but I think you are suppose to use some chemical resistant tape or dope. I've gotton along well with the plain tape though.

I used dope. Either will work. Its preference. HOWEVER, be sure to wrap the tape with the threads so it don't back out when threading the petcock.

Teflon Tape for gas and volatile fluid lines is Yellow (that's what I use)...I think the white should be fine 99% of the time though.

Nothing....

Not to add confusion or controversy – Had the same concern, saw that Pingel was one of the mfg of the Big Dog petcock (power-flo series) . Gave them a call to find out and here’s what they had to say – “NOTHING” the washer that is included is sufficient to seal the petcock. Don’t kill the messenger. (Did that on my K9 – applied “nothing” and so far so good)

Lots of good advice and choices thanks guys, when you people that use teflon how many times do you wrap the thread?I wrapped the threads on the tank 3 times tight and was careful to cut the ends square it has no leaks.I noticed today after about 5 or 6 miles i have a small leak at my oil gauge fittings at the tappent screen location. I was not so careful with the teflon it might had rode up the threads.Maybe i just tightened it too much who knows tomorrow i am going to re- teflon it or use something stronger if you guys have any ideas for better than teflon at the tappet screen location...

The problem with tape is that if you don't wrap it in the correct direction with the threads it will ride up like you say. So either pull it out, remove old, and rewrap it in the correct direction or put some pipe dope on it instead.
