PDM RESULTS

Has anybody had any problems with their new PDM wiring harnes. I've read on here and the only one that seemed to have a slight problem was Raywood with his HCI. I also read somewhere that some people had a problem with the bike shutting down when they honked the horn. Someone also said that it takes 2 tries to start the bike with the new harness. Has anyone else had any other issues or is this it? I'm sure hoping i don't have any shutdown issues like i was having with the EHC.

Never any issues with mine. Installed on an 07 K9 with air ride.
Only problem was getting it all to fit with the air pump. Since installed, many trouble free miles of riding!

No problem since installing mine nearly 2 years ago. Only issue I had when I installed one of the first was there was a mistaken pin connector on the harness that I quickly figured out and re-landed it properly. The biggest PITA was getting it neat and proper under the side covers.

Also when I go through the starting procedure, starts every time on the first shot, so have not heard of the two try part. On the horn shutting down, that occurred on some of the very first ones due to the horn relay set up, but if not mistaken all the newer ones have that resolved, mine included.

Also it appears that they have improved the PDM with little things such as having all the grounds tied together into 1 or two wires instead on the original with many grounds braided together.

So far mine is doing good, have full confidence in it and have gone on multi-day rides with no issue. The only feature that it takes out is the self canceling turn signals, so one needs to shut off the turn signals by hand.

Mine is one of the early ones. I bought it while Bigdog was still in business. They sent me 3 new relays that sit in the fuse box, because the part number of my relays were the same as some that they had problems with. They also sent me a new wire that has an inline fuse going to the ignition key to prevent the wire from burning up when you turn the key. I did get a new horn relay kit with the harness, but i left my original hooked up. I hope that doesn't matter. I still have the 3 or 4 ground wires. Still cold here, so no chance anytime soon of trying it out.

Finally got out for a ride for the first time with the new PDM installed and put about 100 miles on it. Everything went well no problems.:2thumbs:

Kool, I've had several issues with mine. Ignition problems mainly but sent it back to BDM and they rebuilt it for me. New models are a lot different

:( I really doubt it is the PDM! You need spark, air intake, compression and gas..... So, I am going to guess you are out of gas again......:roll::roll::roll:

I know...I am an ass hole but I couldn't help it. You are too funny.:2thumbs:

So is it just a matter of time before my EHC goes bad on my 07 K9? Would it be wise of me to go ahead and install the PDM retrofit kit or at lease have one on standby? I have not had any issues yet, but there are only 2700 miles on the bike. Just don't want to get stranded somewhere on a long ride. Let me know what you guys think!

My electrical has been acting up for a while. Mostly in the spring and the fall. I'm thinking the colder weather had something to do with it. But last year my speedo started acting up. I changed it out to a Medallion. Starting sometime in August until the end of the season the bike would just shutdown while riding. Didn't matter at what speed. Sometimes it would start backfiring like it shutdown and then turned itself back on. Only one time it didn't start right away. It took about 5 minutes. I just got fed up with the unreliability. Lots of times when i switched my key on, all the lights on the EHC would be on. Tried holding the left signal on while turning the key on to troubleshoot, and still all the EHC lights would be on. Start driving for a while and then everything would be alright again. Very inconssistent. Decided to try the PDM since i had it on the shelf since 2010. Hopefully it is reliable.

I was not having any EHC issues, but went ahead and installed the PDM for piece of mind. Plus you can sell the EHC for big $$$

What is the Osmotic? Is that the same as the PDM? I didn't realize either that people would buy a factory 2007 EHC... EBAY??

Happens to the best of us!! So how hard exactly is the rewire job for a PDM install? Is it rocket science or just time consuming? I'm not the best at bike maintenance, but with the help of this site I have accomplished more that I thought I ever would! So I have gotten better... Would you recommed taking it to a mechanic for install or you think an average joe like myself could handle it?? Now remember.... I'm from KY!! haha

You have a little patients then you can do it. I'm only a slightly better than your average Joe with a wrench. For sure not a mechanic.

I agree with Knuckles, if you plan on keeping your bike go ahead and change it out. You can sell your EHC and recoup some of your money. I had 45,000 on my EHC but it was always in the back of my head when is going to fail, now I fell a lot better. And the PDM is a pretty simple install. I don't think you'll regret. it's all so running about 6 weeks to get it.

I just ordered the PDM for my 07 K9 and was wondering if the unit will fit with a Scorpio SR-i900 installed. Hope it does.... Any experience with this?

I ordered mine about 3 weeks ago so hopefully I'm only a couple weeks away from having my piece of mind.

PDM was pretty easy to install. Everything is plug and play. It takes about a day(8 hours) to install. Only difference I noticed is when I shut the bike down, my RPM's cycle on my speedo(just like the needle when you turn the key on). Other than that, runs great with no problems.

PDM Install

I recently had a friend of mine install it on my 2008 Mastiff with absolutely no problems. Living in Rapid City, South Dakota I haven't been able to ride it very much but so far trouble free. The friend who installed it worked for Big Dog before they went out of business and is an excellent mechanic. He has installed both wire plus and the PDM and much prefers the PDM. So anyone traveling to Sturgis this year are welcome to give me a call if you have problems with your bike I can get you in touch with him. Serveral local business's try to recruit him each year to do their custom bike work. Home 605-348-2429 or cell#605-415-5525. I think you'll like the PDM.
