Ok, Fellow Big doggers...I have an 08 K-9 EFI...

1. Is the PDM direct plug in?
2. Which is better? Wire plus or PDM?
3. Anyone with any first hand expierence with the PDM?

I'm looking at converting my electrics...any help will be appreciated..

I beleive the PDM is plug and play for the most part. The Wires Plus is goign to require some wiring work. I am sure both are on equal ground as far as what they do and their purpose. I have neither as I am still rocking my EHC and will continue to do so till it quits.

What do you mean by converting your electrics? Controls, Charging amps...

The PDM is much easier than the wire plus, but I don't even know if you can get them anymore. There are a few threads in here about it, do a search. I installed 2, one early version the guy lost his horn, the other works fine.

I'm not sure if you can get a wire plus right now either. A buddy had been trying to get one for 6 mo. There are plenty out there so it works, just a lot of work to install it. There are a ton of threads here. I've done a shitload of the WP units, it's not that it's hard, it's just a lot of cutting and splicing, the install is messy unless you spend a lot of effort cleaning it up, and if you do have a problem, it's tough to trouble shoot.

If it was me, I'd rewire the whole bike for a standard harness every time, but if you lack the experience I'd go PDM, unless you can't get one then your only choice is the WP.

Install time for a total noob on the PDM is going to be 2-4 hrs. Wire plus 8-12.

Yeah, I watched a WP kit get installed and it wasnt that hard, but a lot of wire mess to make neat...My EHC works fine, but I am interested in putting a PDM on the shelf in case of an emergency...I like the PDM concept, it's more plug in and it appears to be located neatly inside the battery box...:)

Look at Fibersnakes How-To on the PDM install. I have had it on mine since last October, just unplug the EHC harness and plug in the PDM. Not much to it

They have a half page add in this months V-Twin magazine. Looks like they would get more help to get them to the customers faster and you are right about the time frame for us beginners on the wire plus install.

My PDM works great! had some minor issues at first but thats been taken care of..... Vibration from everything (motor,90mph ect, ect,) will soon work something lose.. But I like having the fuse`s in case that was to happen..

The PDM is not truely plug and play at least with an EHC harnes. It will come with a whole new harness and if needed a battery box too. YOu will have to remove your existing main back bone harness and the power harness and install the new one. That said the new one will plug directly into the existing connections of everything the original harness hooked into.

It is about 2-3 hour install if you prep right and have the tolls handy and read up first. A few things could be nicer and may have been corrected on latest version, biggest was the multiple ground wires, but I brought mine together and to one large terminal suing a proper crimp as well as solder. Tied that to a ground stud and ran a seperate ground of good size from battery ground to the ground studs.

Still mine has been fine since I installed it and have approx 3k on it now, once I am back in the states, hope to get many more and hopefully it will stand up to use, if not the next will be old skol wiring (or possibly the Mu Unit if it show promise).

Also some of the PDM were installed on some of the later model and have not heard a great deal of concerns from many on them, but probably so few out there, who can really say.

Not sure about the turn-around at this time. Do like the fuses, relays and clean schematice for troubleshooting if I have any later.

Probelm with the M-unit is you need to know what you are doing and there are additional parts you need to get to make the rear lights work for you. I am not saying its bad but out of all the choices its going to be the most difficult to do, albeit probably the one I will choose if my EHC ever goes out.

I installed the pdm this spring. Only issue was finding an alternate place to mount the hci. This because I have air ride and the compressor is mounted where the hci is suggested to be placed. If you don't have air ride then it simplifies things. Yes you have to remove the gas tank so you can pull the harness out of the backbone, but still it's basically plug n play.
I'm no wiring expert and maybe moderate to slightly above average as far as mechanical know how.
Everything worked for me first attempt and didn't have to trace down any problems.

The PDM units have to be ordered from "bdmperformanceproducts" It will take them a couple of weeks to manufacture it.
