PCB boards

First, I am a newby and very forum un-saavy. This is the first time I am posting on any forum and it is really out of neccessity. I own a '08 K9 that I bought new. I have had very few problems with it for 5500 miles: a loose inline clutch nut and my right-hand pcb board is acting up. The pcb board that my service dept. ordered three months ago from Big Dog failed to arrive due to the shutdown and by reading this forum I was able to locate the replacement kit at a vendor and it's on the way. It was kinda hard finding these parts and I feel pretty certain that I will be looking for parts for it in the future. Do any of you have some experience with these pcb boards that you may be able to provide? I will not be installing the boards myself because electricity hates me. I am interested in the failure rate of these boards so I can stock up if they are a continuing problem. I read about the EHC problems and I am planning to have a replacement for that very soon. Even though "NIGHT TRAIN" explained that the problem EHC's were all in the pre-2008 series, I do not wish to tempt fate. I live in southern AZ and like riding to Tombstone. Believe me, You do not want to be broken down and walking your custom ride down the highway. A group of cartel vatos will sweep down on you and leave you robbed,murdered and mutilated!

Well for me I have a 04 Chopper. I have not had any problems with the EHC or the boards. It seems that some BD owners have trouble some don;t. Just my opinion.

I've got an 08 K-9 with no issues on the control PCB's. I'd open the handle grip make sure there are no shavings in there that will cause issues.

Where did you get your PCB board from and how much?

No EHC problem here, just loose wire in the connector crimps on the smaller wires that go to the battery terminals.

Do you have a cruise mate?
If not installed properly the housing can have metal shavings in it and cause problems with the boards.

I was browsing forum info from the '09 entries. I was swayed by the trend of thought from some of them. I have to give you the edge in logic on the "ain't broke" theory, but I think i'll order the kit, just to be covered under Murphy's Law. Wouldn't hurt to have one on hand.

Yes, you jogged my memory. Ditto on the loose wire on connector crimps.

Sorry. In my original post I stated that I bought the parts from a vendor and that is incorrect as R&B is a dealer. I had spoken with several vendors prior to the purchase and I had the V word on the brain.

My only issue for my 05 was the brake light switch on my PCB came off. I just resoldered the wire through the board and all was good. They are actually very simple boards. I dont know why they would be $190. Seems steep.

BlackDog in PA has the right side boards for $90. Just checked on Saturday. Was going to get a spare, but not at that price.

I get you. I paid a lot for the kit, maybe too much. The BD mechanic got the old board working by doing some tinkering, but he cautions that it may not be a permanent fix. Not to be a drama king, but you live in Pa. where there is always someone around(excluding your dense woods) and you have reliable cell phone service. Here, if you bike into the mountains or some areas of southern AZ you lose the signals for miles and miles. If that happens to me I will be cursing myself for being too cheap to take every step to avoid it. I'll replace that right side as soon as I get it. Thank you all for your thoughts and input.
