That is what I was thinking. IT looked like the one that would seal the best. The instructions talk of pre 96 with raised bung and say use the beveled gasket. The split gasket used on 96 and later. But I am wondering if this is actually the raised bung. I cut back the bubbled paint and there was filler up to the bung. I didn't want to go too deep, just wanted to remove bubbled paint. It looked to me like there could be a fair amount of filler up to the bung. Leading me to believe it may be the raised bung and just filled up to the lip of the bung.I used the beveled gasket, I believe the split is for tanks with raised bungs according to the instructions
It is a "vented" cap along with a paint saver. What I did was score around the edge of the paint saver with an exacto knife. No need to go deep, and try to go at it as horizonal/underneath as much as possible. I also took some dental floss and pulled that around under the paint saver. You then need the tool, or make one that fits in the notches of the paint saver. I bought one from bigdogpartsking on ebay. He and Donna are members of the forum here. Cost me $20. There may be other vendors for the tool on the forum. The paint saver came out without too much effort, it just unscrews from the bung. Some have had issues with getting the paint saver to come out, some have noted it may have been epoxied in place. Mine did not appear to have been epoxied. I sealed around the bung with "Seal-All" to try to keep the paint from bubbling again. Once you have it out get a Harley gas cap, or a new paint saver/cap of your choice. Is the stock cap nonventing?
Can you give step by step..... Not sure how to get the old one out and don't want to get I over my head.
What about the petcocks? There's an awful lot of talk about bungs going on here![]()

BWG56, do you have any pictures of which gasket you used?It screws in just like the paint saver does, you remove 2 of the screws and insert the brass standoff's to tighten it and then remove them and reinsert the screws, the screws do not touch the tank and you can see the cap screws off with the black part in the pic.
