Are you talking about the "Tappet Screen" bolt????

Mine came with a nice chrome 6 pt bolt head. My old Harley had the slotted screw and I think my old 03 BD did.
We have the same models so in this pic the slotted screw is to the oil pump and the 6 pt bolt right at the date stamp and side of the lifter block is the Tappet Screen. You just need a 5/16ths socket!

Thats the one that came stock with mine but I would guess that any major motorcycle mail order catalog would have it.

Delly, I have the tool. Where are you in NJ? I can lend it to you. Don't butcher the slot, then you'll have more problems. You can buy the new hex head probably at a HD or bike shop. You can also get it from any of the catalogs.

If you buy the socket it will be called a "drag Link" socket. But if you're going to switch to the hex head plug I don't know that I would buy the socket for a one time use. Just my thought:D

instead of putting in a hex head, why not just go ahead and put in an oil pressure guage and kill two birds with one stone????????????/

Rainman you are correct. I was talking about a socket that has a 11/16" blade like a screwdriver like in your picture. Its used in heavy truck front ends on the drag links.

The 08 has hex heads on all three plugs now FYI

Thanks V

Their getting smarter at the puppy mill. Those tappet nuts are a pain in the ass to get off without that tool. I'm glad they went to the hex nuts.

I was actually able to break mine loose with a socket flat head screwdriver tip, not as big as I would have liked, and only after totally destroying the slotted oil plug that was in my 2002. I hope the local motorcycle shop has a nice chrome hex one, or else order a $8 part and pay $9 for shipping.
