Oil Puking

Grabbed this from a past post.

"Your year of bike is notorious for this because the oil tank is higher than the engine case. When your bike sits for extended periods of time (can be a couple weeks), the oil will slowly run from the oil tank to the engine case. This causes people to overfill their oil (because the oil tank will show "add" when oil has run to the case). Also, when oil runs to the case it causes an overfill situation in the case which in-itself will cause some "pukeage." One easy way to prevent "Pukeage" is to simply start your bike frequently to keep the reserve oil in the oil tank instead of the engine case."

2004 Chopper......My question is do I have to drain all of the oil first from the bike, or can I just add some oil and let the excess leak out? The oil in the bike right now is not old. The bike has just been sitting for a long time.

it may take a little while for the oil to work it's way back into the tank out of the case. usually the discrepancy is caused by seepage past the check ball in the oil pump.
