Hello
2005 BDM Ridgeback with factory air filter. I noticed that under the cover there is some oil coming out  , so I took the cover off and noticed that the filter is all black and moist :job: and the cover had oil on the bottom. What can be the problem? What is the solution? Bike had the service done about 200 miles ago.
Thank You

Hey Polak.....This is a common problem and there is a past thread that covers this, I just wish I could find the link to share it with ya. My '04 mastiff does the same thing. I have not taken the proper steps to correct mine yet.!!

Maybe some of the other members will chime in on this one.!!

The main reason is overfilling oil tank. You will always get a small amount of blow-by at speed but not that much. Don't forget, a lot of threads on dip sticks being wrong ones for bikes. Min was so I check by looking inside and making sure oil is only filled to right below return in tank. To take care of the small amount I put a women's carefree pad stuck to the bottom of my air cleaner cover and change it every oil change....figure if it takes care of a chick's blow-by, why not. Works like a champ.

Actually that is probably the rear breather going into the intake backing plate... get some rubbre hose or SS line (depending on bling factor you care about) and run that fucker to the ground as shown in many threads including most recently this one

BUT IMPORTANT!!!

Keep the white side of said check valve pointing towards the motor.

Side note...

you can put the check at the top or the floor... doesn't matter

or

as long as the check valve is there and white facing motor!!!

Have to disagree with you on that buddy. Placing the valve closer to the engine will keep the hose from filling with oil like a resorvoir.

If it was a problem you should of had more than a drip. I was just concerned due to if the line was full of oil it would give the crankcase pressure no where to go.

neither do I... but Polak does... and better to be safe than sorry IMO.

The other day I saw some breathers by Trotta... small threaded filter that barely sticks out an inch or so ?

Anyone ever find the thread for the permanent fix on this? I got the same thing goin on. I'm not a fan of putting the line out the bottom in front of the tire. I can do a catch can but if there is a fix... i'd rather do that.

That is the fix. Every engine has blowby and if vented into an air cleaner would drip. Factory cars just burn it through the PCV system. I run a canister on my hot rod. Either you puke it on the ground or try and burn it through the engine like yours is setup currently. A few drips isn't going to cause you any problems.

Something I will mention here even though its been disputed many times. We all know the front cylinder hose is optional, so that being said if you have the front hose hooked up and are still getting blowby on the rear vent you have issues. I have went over this with my motor builder several times. I had problems with blowby after eliminating the optional front hose. But once I had my motor built and hooked up all the clear lines I noticed that the front hose sucks so much oil and vapor from the front cylinder that there is no way the pressure can build up enough to vent from the rear cylinder unless you have too much oil or some other issue. I didn't like how much oil I was sucking into the carb with the front hose hooked up so once again I have removed it and now only get maybe a small drop or 2 from the rear and thats after running it pretty hard. Just think of it like a pvc system on a car.

I talked to my buddy today (same bike) he has one hose running to the oil tank (return hose requires drilling holes in the oil tank) and then second hose to the bottom of the bike (bearly any oil comes out) this way filter is keept clean. Few hundred bucks fix. :(
