OCC / NY EPA standards?

Energy One
I was watching American Chopper for the first time in a really long time last night, building the Viego bike. Not sure if it is a new one or what. But they mentioned they could not use custom "cool" exhuast anymore due to EPA requirements. Did something change up there? It is kinda like BD and HD using the standard slip on pipes. Good performance, but absolutely no sound. So used to OCC bikes at least sounding good (even if the them sucks/is overboard!).

I'm sure the EPA just finally caught up with them.

It's either comply or go out of business.

NY changed some crap recently, imposed a decibel limit on all bikes. To comply you must get inspected and get an EPA sticker, this way they can just ticket bikes even if they are parked somewhere. I'm not sure if it has really gone through, or if they are enforcing it. I have a buddy on Staten Island who now refuses to ride North. He goes straight from his house over the bridge to NJ.

They probably decided to run quieter pipes so now you can hear them bitching at each other while riding down the road too! :D

I am not sure what the OCC boys were referring to on the show, though I suspect it likely has to do with their status as an OEM.....

However, the NY City Bill (416-A) that Earl noted was laid over by the committee on December 10th last year..... and hopefully never passes !

I think OCC is just about done. If anyone has watched this season, you would see the old man is worried. While his heart is in motorcycles, his simply put "hasn't got an ounce of the required design saavy" needed to make money.

The 10 year bike they just came out with is another feeble stab at design by the old man. He still has Poole to help him design, but the way the guy runs his company is "it's my way or the highway" type management.

Everyone working for him is afraid to talk back to him. They all need jobs.

While I have enjoyed OCC shows since they started, the magic was gone lasst season and this season is nothing but fufilling a contract. Building that beautiful building was just a pipedream that was riding the last wave of biker love TV shows.

What we need are some more biker buildoff with real builders.

We do not need the "New American Blunder" or any more Jap bike shows.

I have heard the Jesse James has a new show starting, but I don't think it's a bike show (what a shame).
