hello looking for some advice on my big dog had a issue thaught is was carb problem, runs at a low idle and low demand then shut off waited a min started right back up no issue reapeted same problem a few miles down the road, this time would not refire...braught it back to my garage rebuild starter and cranked nicely fired up, sounded good then simply cut off in mid throttle, check plug wires and power no spark to plug wires...where do i go from here any one have a wire diagram or trouble shooting methods? thanks...:flag:

First thing I would check:
See if you are getting power to your coil.
If you have power there, and you aren't getting any spark. You have a bad coil or ignition trouble.
If you aren't getting any power there, you will have to start eliminating things

Check that and post your findings. Then we can help you from there

ignition issues

2002 big dog, ok i checked the switch where key turns on the power and check all conections all has power, removed the jumper wire used regular connecter for starter it rotated one time and returned to a single click when pushing the starter button located on the right handlebar, removed the center cover of the tank began checking connections all look good but the EHC seems to be making a click and the starter button will not turn over the starter....but the starter does turn fiercely when using the jumper wire from the battery, still no spark from plug wires...you thaught or tip or recommendations in this thanks.....i just baught a new starter because it seems like the problem..but starter work fine with a jumper....

try taking off the gas cap and see if you hear a whoosh. if you do, the vent in the cap has gone bad. keep it simple.

My last bike did something similar. I found that the coil was arcing through it"s plastic case and grounding out on the coil cover. It was arcing right on the seam where the two halves of the coil meet. I believe it was the Nology plug wires that caused this. I insulated the inside of the coil cover with a thin sheet of rubber.

starter wont cause a running problem.if your now getting just a click that sounds like battery however when you use a jumper wire it turns over.maybe a loose ground wire.check all connections.could be gas cap for the poor running and dying out.check these things and get back to the guys:cheers:

thanks for the fast response and tips on my scooter...so far I believe the symptoms lead to a relay for the starter to be replaced and the ignition pick up sensor will need to be replaced and upgraded, thanks again for the manual and info ill post updates on my finds and trouble shooting....!!
