No power

Im at work right now and Jason my son just pulled up at the P.D. And when he turned his bike off and then turned the key back on, it had no power and the board under the seat light up (EHC?) even with the key out. He unplugged the battery and it went back to normal. He just installed one of those HID headlights. any thoughts??

I installed an HID kit and all worked will for a few weeks.
Then I replaced the battery and all worked well for a few days, then in the middle of a ride, the HID quit working. no other issues though.
Contacted the seller and tried all suggestions many many times, to no avail. The hid flat out did not work. Even checked out the connections under the tank (major pain in the ass). Nothing. Then a few weeks back, it would come on around the second fill up of fuel while riding. Then it would just come back on a lil bit into the ride. Now it comes on most of the time when the key is turned on, though not all the time. Never did track down the issue either.

by the way, while the hid light is bright, I have found the light is not good for long distance on fast night rides, the stock high beam is actually better for this type of riding.

But then again, your issue sounds different

HID light and EHC do not mix very well some times. I never had a chance to play with it but my assumption, based on no data, and no troubleshooting, was that a diode would have probably helped, kept some noise out of the EHC. Needs more wires but it could be wired in with a relay & load equalizers to isolate some of the electrical noise. It wasn't every bike with an HID but multiple bikes had problems. Get with BDMRidgeback, he probably has the most experience with HID lights on Big Dogs. Exact same issue came up with an EFI bike until we replaced the HID light, then everything worked fine (I'll have to check with the tech, he may have had to reload software or even replace the EHC though).
