Is anyone riding to Hulet on Wednesday? For those who have made the journey is it worth the ride? If its all in the name then I'm there...:whoop:

Don't know about now but we went there in '04 or '05 and I wasn't impressed. First we started getting into major traffic jam (just walking the bikes along) for several miles out of town (the hype over the name had EVERYONE going). And then when we got there the lure really didn't materialize (maybe they weren't wearing them, but they weren't showing either).

Would enjoy hearing what others who have gone more recently thought.

It is on the way to Devils Tower though.

I enjoyed the ride. every time we went we went to hulet and then to sundance and by the time we got to Sundance the party there was winding down. We did it the other way last time and they changed the time table at Sundance. I would recommend it if you like to ride. The road thru the canyon was finished a couple of years ago and make sure to stop at all the one pop stop on the way. The stone hotel I think and a couple of other place as well as the tower are cool. Hulet is OK I liked the ride alot but we went early and left early made a whole day out of it got back to the chip in time for the concert and rocked out!!!!

Ray,
This is my first time going to Sturgis...Sunday we are checking out Sturgis and the vendors, Tues is the BGB Forum ride and Wed we are headed to Devil's Tower via Hulet. So I need rides for Monday, Thurs and Friday. Do you have any suggestions or fav rides?

Well I'm not the expert like some of these other guys but if you like history there is the "Wall" but it's a bit of a ride in open country. I did it crossing the country back in 86.
summer vacation spots, vacation to go, vacation idea,

Then you don't want to miss both Mt Rushmore and Crazy Horse. For our BDB Tue ride we won't be going out that far this year. It was a cluster trying to get all the bikes together last year for our group picture so that is why we are doing the luncheon. But visiting these two monuments include riding the Needles hwy and Iron Mt Rd you will cover most of the Black Hills areas.

Other than that you should plan a day enjoying the big sites such as Full Throttle Saloon, Monkey Rock and maybe one of the campgrounds like the Buffalo Chip, it offers everything you need. You can't see everything in Sturgis in just one day, it's too crowded and expansive and you can't move very fast around town.

Enjoy your trip.

Be sure to ride Vanacker Canyon (goes south from E I 90 Sturgis interchange). Ride to Nemo (just south of Nemo is Big Mama's house - good burgers and beer - on east side of road) then can go west on Nemo Road or on South to West outskirts of Rapid City, then west on 44 to Pactola Reservoir). Really great curvy ride.

Also see Custer State Park, maybe wind caves (guided tour), Needles highway (a must ride must see - very curvy, narrow tunnels).

And of course, Spearfish Canyon, and the other major places.

Be sure to ride out to Broken Spoke Campground county line, ride through the saloon, and see the worlds largest biker swimming pool. Bear Butte on the way out there

Have FUN! Shovelcowboy

Get a map (they are at the campgrounds and really good ones at the station across from the Full Throttle.

I was going to say all of that. Most important part is to have fun and ride. There are all sorts of one pop stops in the hills and some really neet towns. There is also the wildlife loop in custer state park. Watch out for the donkeys and buffalo in the roads. If you stay in town and just cruise main you missing out in my opinion. There is no reason to ride to Wall Drug. but if you do you can go thru the badlands and then back on the highway. Also as mentioned by shovel there is Nemo road. This is a great way to get back to Sturgis if you go to the convention center in Rapid City. Good loop HD dealer, convetion center, nemo road to nemo for a one pop. over the hill to Deadwood, back to sturgis, then to the chip to get ready for the concert.

So much to do so little time... Wishing I could go:(

I would agree with all. And thought the Badlands was a great area and some of the best picture ops.

And looks like the temps will be (at least for now) in the mid to lower 80's perfect for a trip thru the Bad Lands, if you haven't been there it's a must. Also stop by Scenic for a cold one, that town is an old ghost type town. Saw dust on the ground for the cowboys to spit on.
