Been looking around for new Metlzers, found front tires for $80 free shipping on ebay. I asked about the tire manufacture date and the reply was, they sent us new tires all the time. When it came this week it has 0914 as the date code. Made the 9th week of 2014. Didn't know if I should complain or let it go.
Also found the 300 Metzler for $315 at a different ebay seller.I am going to ask for the date code before I order.

I can't seem to find the thread on the search tab but I thought I read somewhere that Avon had sent out some very old date code cobra tires at one point in time?

The problem with old but yet good thread tires is the sidewall cracking. Since they have never been on a bike I don't suspect they have any cracking. If you pay for new tires you should get new tires. I'd ask fo some kind of refund since they are 3 years old and may have sat in a hot warehouse for the last 3 years. When ever I order tires for my truck/car I tell them don't send anything older than a year old. Learned this from my RVing days... Of course if you are like me and ride over 20k a year it just doesn't matter....

My tires usually last about 3 years. Allot of highway riding at about 80 mph. Some weeks I ride about 500 miles back and forth to work. I will never go back to metzlers.. View attachment 45674
See.. I swore by Metzeler up until i got a k9 and found out they were actually 319 mm and had to be cocked to one side to avoid not hitting the belt. This is my first run with avon.. so we shall see how it goes..

The problems I have had are most of the sellers can't (won't) give you anything but a BS story about they have no way to give a date because they ship from multiple locations. If I need tires I try to buy late Fall, maybe a better chance of getting fresher tires.

Remember, a lot has to do with where you live too. I live in Central Texas where it's hot most of the days in a year. As far as brand, I've been working on bikes awhile and for years I've been using Shinko tires. Any bikes I've had I wait for the stock ones to wear out then switch. In most cases they wear better and longer than any of the other brands I've come across. I just got them a few months ago for my K9 and they are awesome on grip. The price is great too, rear 300 was $185 and front $65.

i have met the UPS truck with the tires before and checked the born on date and refused delivery. dealer told me they were fresh and sent old stock. this is something you need to stay on top of.

Last summer was my first riding season with the big dog I bought it with 1500 miles on it now it has 5000 + I probably ride 3000 miles a season sucks the riding season is so short around here and I cannot ride to work because I need to have all my tools with me and I also spend a lot of time running my daughter around etc
Ok, so you just wore out the tires you bought it with, glad they held up well, that's kinda pushing the limits just a bit though! :oldlaugh:
