well i think i need a new starter, but i am not sure ! the bike started just fine about a year ago. i got my new forwards in just be fore sturgis .fixed all the other little things, cleaned the bike and carb put fresh gas and a new battery. the engine will hardly turn over . pull the plugs and it turns just fine . check the compression releases and they are working . when trying to crank it with the plugs in even for a short time both battery and cables get very warm.

any ideas before i start buying new parts and not knowing if i need a new starter . and the battery is perfect, checked and load tested . also any ideas were i can get a new starter ?

look around your area for an alternator/starter rebuild shop before you buy a new one. a whole lot cheaper.

If your new battery is really strong (load tested) then I would suggest checking all your battery connections. May be a weak link preventing a strong connection.

thank all . the starter is out and dropping it of at a shop tomorrow that will load test it (i sent the shop a email with the text from that click click click thread thanks chris, i am sure it will be helpful).and if i am lucky it will only need to be cleaned if not they can rebuild it. i am keeping my fingers crossed .i really miss riding this bike . and as some of you might have a good idea of how much ($) i have invested in it .such as Gasman, we did just about the same complete tear down. i just want to be able to ride and enjoy it again ,and stop getting pissed of about it ! but it is all my doing .

thanks for letting me rant and vent.

the started was tested a turned out to be just fine. but they are going to tear it down just to check it out . we think it could of been one of two think the solenoid or the leads at the starter . thank again Raywood and Gasman .

Chi, quite a few members on here have had their starters rebuilt at the local starter/motor place. Suprised your place can't fit some brushes to it.

Compufire used to do the starters but they told me they don't anymore but they still make a good starter if you ask me!!!!

ray talked to compu fire . they said they would rebuild it for $130 and i think it to be a good price. .it just sucks that it will take another two weeks to get to back in the bike. thanks for the input .
