This paint job was a quick 3 day job (Fri - Sun) that I did just before Laconia 08. There are the finished pics and a few night shots. Hey, since I had the bike apart I decided to add some illumination! I definitely learned alot;
a. plan the project with plenty of time
b. 24 marathon sessions really aren't fun and mistakes are made
c. plan with plenty of time!!!!!
d. Rushing and long paint sessions don't work!!!!!

see what I learned here. Anyways, I did not get to finish the project as I had planned (artwork on top of the tank and rear fender) and I put a good scratch in the lower rear right side of the front fender when I was trying to put it back on at 0400 and not paying attention. Ahh well, there is always this winter when I will have PLENTY OF TIME to finish and correct my mistakes.

Paint was done in this order;
base coat black / intercoat clear
masked of artwork (maltese cross / USMC emblem / POW-MIA / etc.)
real flames added and freehanded skulls
intercoat clear containing green to blue Kameleon pearl paste (2 coats, blended from rear of each piece so that the back of each piece had two good coats but toward the front it was more dusted on)
2 coats of just intercoat clear
wetsand
touch up flames
3 coats clear
wetsand
2 coats clear
wetsand and buff

Zettie,
I used the Boogey lights for the system. They were relatively inexpensive, cut to length, and simple to install.

I used left over paints I had to do this project and it worked out pretty good. I get some good comments when someone walks around and see's that it changes from green to blue to even purple at times. From the front, in low light it looks black and as you walk toward the rear fender the colors start shifting.
