New guy help. K9 or Ridgeback

Bad Idea

New Member
Hello all,
I am thinking about pulling the trigger on a scooter. I have narrowed down my search to 3 bikes. Ridgeback, K9 & the American Ironhorse LSC, which is similar to a Ridgeback.
My question is, which of the 3 bikes is good for all around riding? I live in the DFW metroplex & would cheat death on occasion & ride 50 miles one way to work. My better half would also ride with me sometimes, at least until she gets her own.
I see myself taking somewhat long trips, like from DFW to Wichita or Table Rock lake in MO. Naturally, I'm a bit hessitant on the hard tail, but have heard that it really rides nice. I have no idea what nice means, but if so many folks say it, it must have some merit.
Help a guy out please. :2thumbs:

never riden a ridgeback so can't make a call there but i have NO complaints about my K9 and i have lower back trouble. as far as the LSC, ironhorse is out of business so you will have to make that decision.

and by the way, :hi: welcome. :2thumbs:

Same as Wood. Love my K9 and have made several trips with no problem. Ironhorse.....I don't know. Parts could be a problem, but anything can be fixed.

People told me the same that the Ridgeback would beat me up, but I have no complaints and it actual feels like it corners so much better then my soft tail. I can lay it right over in the corners at 60-65 with no issues even with the 300 series tire.

Now when I ride my soft tail I feel like I am in a caddy! LOL!

Good luck!

Would buy the Big Dog with out question. The K-9 is a good ride for the wife and I both. Have enjoyed many great miles on it, buy the 2-up seat for her.

I've heard the ridgeback frame has enough flex to make it comfortable. Looks wise, I like how the ridgebacks fender rides close to the wheel.

With that said, I love my K-9. I rode from San Antonio to Sturgis, and back, last year. If it wasn't for the 100+ deg temps, it would have been a perfect ride. For me, I easily could ride 500 to 700 miles a day with no back pain. The wide rear tire means a wide seat, it is FAR more comfortable then my HD softail ever was.

I maybe biased, but the K-9 is my choice. In two years, my only problem has been a broken clutch cable, which was rapidly fixed under warranty. I'm lucky to have a great BDM dealership in San Antonio.

I to have a K9 2006 and I love it. I have about 22000 on it and go on a lot of 300 to 500 mile rides just on weekend. It is very comfortable no back problem, just a sore butt sometimes. but make sure you ride both because they do ride and handle different.

at first I was undecided about the k-9 or the ridgeback but 2 things made the selection easier. (1) the fat 300mm rear tire on the K-9 over the 250mm on the ridgeback. (2) having such a messed up lower back, K-9 softy ride over the" back killing " rigid frame ridgeback.:2thumbs: oh , WELCOME to the best site on the planet for the best looking bike on the planet!:flag:
