Hello All,

I really need some help here. I own a 2006 K9 that I purchased brand new in 06. My problem is that I love the looks, power and the balance of the bike but the ride is killing me. I have arthritis in my spine so I am at a bit of a disadvantage here I understand but I went to Harley and test rode a Road Glide and what a difference in the ride even compared to the soft tail. My question is, is it possible to get a softer ride out of the K9 ? I love the bike and I still ride MX with no pain. I feel as though my K9 is a hard tail. I started riding dirt bikes at 5 years old, first harley 883 at 16 yrs old, 1200 at 18, soft tail custom at 21, night train at 25, and k9 at 32. So I have had my share of bikes and thats not including the mx bikes. I am 38 now and need some comfort to enjoy my riding experience. I make can afford any modifications if it helps me to enjoy the ride more instead of just looking cool. Thanks Guys :D

I went through the same thing...lower back pain to great to ride. Sent the shocks out to WORKS in CA. ,and had them redone but still the suspension even on high limit only offers 3in. of true travel or so. Looking cool has it's disadvantages... Still great for the bar hopping though!!

Don' know how much of a help it may be with your condition, but you may want to consider adding the air suspension.
It helped me.

Have the seat fixed, When I got my first K9 it had a different seat that was a lot better than the one that is on my current K9

Give Sterling a call and discuss your seat options. Sterling Seats can customize a seat just for your needs. http://www.sterlingsca.com/products/products.asp?cat=114

Give Works a call about your shocks to see what they can offer.

One of the reasons a lot of ppl can ride long distance is they are putting a duffle bag or riding bab behind them to lean on and take the pressure off the lower back and someone on here had a back rest made that helped a lot

Could be the ride position the K-9 offers is not fitting with your back. You may want to consider riding some of the other big dog models to see if that works better. Could be your back will like the Pro Street model better.:D

With every motorcycle there are give and takes, hence why there are diff models of each bike.

However, I also feel your pain and I also ride off road in the dunes.

Let us know what works in the long run for you.

Are you sure it's your seat or posture? Meaning are the pegs up close to you causing your legs to be hiked up and putting pressure on your lower back. This is the reason I have extended pegs to take the pressure off my back. Just a thought

I didn't think the progressive airshocks worked on our bikes?

I have the same problem with arthritis in the L1/2. Talked with Lars from Danny Gray; they made me a custom seat tappered with back support and Airhawk system. They send the seat covered in vinyl for test rides and to make adjustments. Once all adjustments are made, you return the seat to be covered in leather. After all is done you pay for it.
I've gone from a max ride of 50 miles at a time/day to several hunderd per day.

All good stuff above. Remember you have 3 points of contacts...hands, ass and feet. So, either one of those could be the problem, or the actual shock adjust.

IMO, would be cool to see a K9 with a lower back rest/support...but you'll probably need to decrease the reach of the bars to accomodate a more upright position. Most enjoy the clamshell look with stretched out feet and bent over hand position.

That's pretty much why I bought my Wolf over a chopper....

Good luck,
