Just bought 2007 mastiff with 3400 miles. First ride today about 30 miles into the ride bike lost all power( did notice a small back fire just prior to losing all power). Took off seat and could see all the lights on a black looking brain on the right side of bike below the battery area. Some nice guys pulled over a I borrowed a screw diver and dis-connected the battery and all the lights went off except a green and yellow. All power was restored and bike fired up. Headed back home about 20 miles, stopped and fueled up and shut bike off and no power when I turned on the ignition. Again all lights were on on the brain looking box. I turned the key off waited 30 mins and it wouldn't re-set. Finally I turned the key on and disconnected the battery and it re-set. Any idea? First time on here hopefully it made sense. Thanks guys

Please do an Intro and then to help you with your problem its going to take a little more info. We have alot of good Spark Chassers of here and some are just skirt chassers but we will help you get the bike Rollin

I hear the dogs barking already! Go back and do a intro and tell us a little about yourself and hang out awhile. You'll learn a lot. Then start with the battery. Have you had it checked. These dogs do not like a half-assed battery. Buy you a good battery And a tender to keep it on when your not riding. There are other things but that's were I would start.

It's not a TUMOR

This sounds just like the problem I had.

Make sure all the connections and ALL the wire crimps are tight at the ring-tounge battery connections on BOTH battery posts. These will be the smaller wires at both the + and - battery terminal posts. Mine were loose and could be pulled out of the connector crimps. Recrimp them tight and try it again. Read the entire post listed below for my experience with this problem. Recrimp them regardless. When you said you removed the wires at the battery terminal and replaced them then ALL but then only a few LED lites on the EHC came on - GOOD! this is exactly what will happen with loose crimps.

Hope this helps! Please let us know what you find out.

Thanks, I went over everything I could see and made sure all connections were tight. I did figure out when it reset the only lights that were on the brain looking box was a green one and a yellow one. Fired right up. When it loses all the power it has nothing, no headlight, horn, nothing at all except all those lights on the black box down and to the right of the battery and they stay on even with key on off position.

My EHC LEDs did not stay when the key was turned OFF.

Did you recrimp all the wires at the battery terminal connections?

Could be a bad keyswitch. Don't hang anything heavy from the key. Keyswitches have been known to go intermittent from vibration and heavy keychains.

No I only pulled on them and did the quick check thing on the side of the highway. I will be doing that first thing in the morning.

If you wash the bike and get water on the hand controls it causes temporary shorts in the on/off circuit.:( Water plays hell with the electrical.

I rarely wash my bike, and when I do I stay away from the hand controls, under the tank and the battery cover area. I normally just dust off the bike and wheels with a dust mop and wet rag clean off the bugs and microfiber cloth wipe dry those spots.

How long have you owned the bike? How long of a test run did you do when you bought it? Did YOU put a new battery in it or did the former owner say HE DID?
What battery do you have in it?
Does it happen only on the road or has it happened just sitting there at Idle?

Had the bike 2 days. Appx 5 mile test ride. Watched the new battery going in. Not sure of the specs but will check later after the ac man leaves. Only has happened twice, the first time I was riding highway speed bike had a little mis fire sound and about 20 seconds later it lost power. Next time about 30 mins later after about 25 mlie ride home stopped for fuel and turned key on and nothing...

Make sure to check all the wires going from the ignition to the coil. I had a very intermittent problem kind of like yours but never lost ALL power, would cut out/back fire and die when riding and I had to turn the ignition key off then on again to start the bike up.

My problem was the wire harness that goes from the ignition (under the seat) to the coil on the engine. I noticed the heat shrink had a couple of spots where it was worn thru to the wire. Cut off the heat shrink and sure enough the blue wire that fires the back cylinder was shorting out on the frame. It was just a tiny wire with a tiny spot of insulation rubbed off. After the wire was fixed, all my problems went away.

Check ALL wires for worn spots that may be shorting out. Be sure all ignition wires are connected to the coil.

Take off the connectors to your EHC and fill them with dielectric grease and put them back on.

Finally I have my dog back. Heres the update... ECH went out ( go figure ) ...Shop here in town checked everything out made sure all connections were tight. I would also like to give a plug for Dream Machines of Texas in here, they stepped up to the plate and gave me a brand new ECH they had (cool). If anybody ever needs another bike they have a large selection too choose from. Al is the one that helped me and really went beyond what someone would normally do for you.. Also thank all of you for your help and time. Just need it to stop raining!!!
