Need help stranded at bike week with possible starter relay failure

2005 Bulldog, went out to go eat dinner from hotel. Bike had been sitting for about 2 hrs. Starter Tried to spin over but seemed to loose power...Gothe a ride to parts store picked up new battery. Hooked everything up hit the switch and just getting a click from under the gas tank from best I can tell. I rode bike a couple hundred miles, no tools...need help for a quick fix it have manged to get side cover off and I've tapped on starter but nothing...any help or tips would greatly be appreciated

You sure you didn't miss a wire when you hooked it back up? Reason why I ask is you said originally starter tried to spin, with new battery it doesn't even try? Either missed a wire or the battery needs to be charged first.

The click under the gas tank is from the compression releases. That's normal.

Check for a lose ground wire at the starter and EHC area. Don't try to jump start it with cables. You are better off asking someone to push you. Put in 4th or 5th gear and make sure the key is on and go for it. Like mentioned above the battery is probably not fully charged.

I will go back and double check, but I believe I got them all...I even checked to make sure I hadn't pulled one loose. I wish I had a voltage Guage bcuz I'm questioning the battery I got also. I forgot to mention all my lights are working normal. Also when I turn key on I see one red light on box under the seat. I can't remember if that's normal or not

Not that it helps now but I'll never leave home again without a Meter. I actually just bought a tiny LED one to Carry.

Yeah, that's the most frustrating part. Not having any tools with me to diagnose
