Need Help Please, Rattling noise.

Hello all, I was riding my dog yesterday and was coming down a pretty steep hill and upon downshifting I heard a rattling noise and bike kinda jerked a little bit...I wanna start by looking into my primary (possibly clutch hub nut loose?) I have been reading some great info on this but it seems that most of the info is on later models, I have a 2004 Ridgeback and my final drive is on the same side as primary and Im just curious of the proper procedure for tightening the nut up, specific to the 2004... Any help will be greatly apprieciated...

Have you ridden down that hill again and recreated the noise?
If not I would NOT start tearing in to your ride.

It did make the noise again on level road as i was limping her home (like two miles), something def not right... I just got back in the house from pulling the primary cover off to take a peak at things and noticed a piece of broken metal laying in bottom of cover (uh oh) so upon further inspection I noticed that around the compensating sprocket there is some sort of cover over it directly behind the nut and it is distorted and looks cracked around it. Not sure what it is from but i did stick a mirror in there to look behind that cover and saw where that broken piece of metal came from... Any help identifying the part or the problem would be great... Im gonna try and upload pics if I can figure out how...

when a Clutch hub backs out...far enough the clutch basket will get into the tabs on the back side (inside) of the primary... Did you check this out? ... just saying because mine did it (chewed it up)... grab your clutch basket and see if it moves (side to side)....

You have A broken Compensator Spring You can get one from J & P For about $30.00 All harley use the same one you have I just replaced mine. Good Luck
