i always said i was just gonna get rid of all the bullshit on this thing and just wire up the neccessities. i have no idea what possessed me to spend 675.00 on some kit to keep all this nonsense. bikes have cool handlebars and it totally sucks they are 1.25 inch. just so ya have to keep the gaughtty blocks big dog decided to use. anyome know of some handlebars similar to these that i could put some cool controls on. wait.....I wont need controls.....brake,throttle,and clutch and I'd be done. way simpler and way cooler and probably no more electrical break downs in the middle of nowhere!!!!
Wow, another brother! My Wire plus installed by a dealer lasted 200 miles. Let's see.... $1150.00 divided by 200 = $5.75 dollars a mile.....
Here is my plan and I've built and wired a lot of bikes...
1- Order Harley complete controls/switches from Ebay $239.00 (done)
When they get here measure the controls on my stock bars and have them cut an a 1" piece welded on to fit the Harley controls.
2- Order a simple wiring kit from Scooters in Fl. that has turn signals, dummy lights, spedo, tach and all the bells and stuff for $400. With no modules, computers just a relay ($13.00 replacement) and great instructions and all parts. (done)
3- an afternoon or 2 wiring my bike so I know every wire in it and IF something goes wrong I can fix it.
So....
$239 controls/switches
$400 wire kit
$40 for welding
---------------------
$679.00 and my bike electronics are bullet proof and I can replace any control for cheap. My last bike I wired that way and after 200k miles it never had an electrical problem....
(You will also need to replace the ign system if haven't done so already. $160 Ultima dual coil set up. Or maybe your Thunderheart is still working.
You could also just wire the bike with a starter button on the coil mount ( you will need a relay), a switch on the headlight for low/high beam, and keep your controls and save $239. Keep It Simple Stupid is the way to go. I now have my bike wired that way and it's working well. Just want to use the other stuff and not worry about BD controls when the brake or clutch side goes. Good luck.
