Hello all,

I hope everyone is well. I just went to AAA to get the title sorted, reg the bike and get plates. All was well until she wanted to see the "sticker or plate" showing it met "National Safety Standards". I assume this decal is the dreaded "downtube decal" we all tease each other about.....Ok here goes.....can I get a decal anywhere? If I have to go to get an inspection ( she advised if I could not locate it I would have to go to CHP and get an inspection form completed ) I will need to bum some pipes as my Chaos II will surely draw the wrong attention in the parking lot...

I bought the bike in NC and the downtube decal had been removed at purchase....

Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

:crazy:Sorry to hear you live in California. One of the most dis-functional, swimming in debt, crazy $$s states in the Union. Most don't have down tube stickers and don't have issues. I bet you can't even dump your coffee grinds down the sink and have 4 garbage cans to separate your trash. Ask Nancy P. to help you out.:roll::roll: I couldn't help that last comment. And Arnold destroyed your ability to get after market pipes (What's up with that?):loony:

I think you are going to have to sell your bike to someone out of state!

I am sorry and the above comments don't help. Try to find someone who knows someone to help you out. Also, try telling AAA that you only need a VIN number which has all the info they should need vice some sticker. In the end, you could print your own sticker on a computer and then throw it away once you get your bike registered.:D

Huw, now you've gone too far! I live in New York and how dare you take what we prize most away. We pride ourselves in having some of the highest taxes, most corrupt politicians and some of the most strict firearm laws in the nation. Also we have some of the strictest corporate regulations causing many major companies to relocate to other states or overseas thus driving our unemployment skyward. I'll let it go this time but check you facts from now on!:lol::roll::lol:

Ibought my bike in Nevada brought it to Cal.went to the DMV had the title changed to my name got it registered, showed proof of insurance.three weeks later had registration in hand.Their main interest was that it had over 7500 miles on it, anything under can't be brought into state . Never got a straight answer on that question. they found the three vin numbers that they neededand that was about it.

Prior to buying my Mastiff I called AAA and made sure they would insure it... They did.....:2thumbs:
Then 6 months later I got a letter saying they would not renew the policy when it was time to renew. I called and asked why!! They said because it was "Modified for speed and Performance" I told them it was a factory built bike...yada yada.. Long story short and several days + people later one person said "it is on a list of bikes they DON'T insure... the same with any crotch rocket" Really... you just did for a year.... Anyway I insured with Progressive and they have been great... I'v had one claim when my bike fell over. $4.500.00. And they were great to work with and no rate hike....

I've had my ridgeback insured with AAA since i got it in 07, granted I didn't bring it in from another state, but i've had no hassle yet. I would take some of the advice thrown out there and go online with progressive, I got a policy online for my dirtbikes in about 5 minutes. I'm sure you can get it done without all the bullshit AAA wants. Worst case scenario hit me up i have my stock pipes just in case.

OOPs, I had no idea (having never lived in NY) that NY was up there with CA. I had forgotten about the N-plant where a fire extinguisher was brought to the VP and told it had expired which made it out to Hilliary who called him personally being very concerned followed up by the VP's mother asking why the Fire Protection system was FUBAR.

Thanks for the pass. I'll try to do better.:2thumbs::D

I think I would tell AAA "OK", I'll take my money elsewhere and see if they don't rethink their position. Progressive works well for me and I have towing with them so I don't take many tools on trips (Don't even have a tool bag!).:D

I will try and go tot he DMV but it is a zoo here too....it is not an isurance issue.....its a issue with the removed decal on the downtube....I dont have on but I assume it has language to the effect that the bike has been deemed safre for operation on US roads....

Look under the seat, mine was removed and installed under the seat. Bike original buyer must have done it when he added pipes and things at the dealer in Spokane wa. It had 500 miles on it when i got it

Shane,
The stock pipe issue doesn't go into effect until 2012. Only 2012 and newer bikes. I may have a sticker you can borrow from when I removed mine. The CHP should be able to inspect the bike though. It's the emmission sticker they are looking for. The vin and bike company is already registered with Feds as a meeting the safety standards. PM me if you need to.

When I re-titled my Honda from NC to Ca, I took it to a DMV service here on base, pretty much one of those places that you pay to stand in line for you at the DMV and has a Notary public. She asked me where the emissions sticker was and I told her I bought it like like that, she said ok and proceeded with the rest of the inspection. Where in SoCal are you?

Take a picure of one for your year. Take the picture to a printing shop and have a clear vinyl overlay done. May cost a small amount but should solve your problem. Many print shops can make decals on the aluminum foil backing.

I had the same problem when i moved out there. I ended up registering the bike in Kansas under my dad's name. BUT, you should also be able to send the bike info to Sac-town and they can give you the thumbs up on registering it.
