Having the LFM automatic clutch means that I will probably always have more clutch slippage on low RPMs, while taking off, but less slippage on the high RPMs because of higher clamping forces than the spring type clutch, so it works out. I haven't noticed that it slips any more in second than in first, it locks up by about 1200 RPM. Now that I have mine adjusted correctly, I find myself using the clutch lever to make it slip more than before.Taking off in second is only causing you excessive clutch wear...
But if I forget to downshift and try to take off in 4th or 5th, it will slip a lot. but as far as clutch wear is concerned, I don't mind, heck, tires cost more than a new clutch disc set, and working on these Dogs is half...no, a third...wait, a quarter... OK, some of the fun.
I resemble that remark! I'm a lazy fool. I actually considered going larger on the front pulley to make first gear more usable and lower the RPMs at cruising, but I thought about it and decided to heck with that, I would have to shift more....people take off in 2nd being lazy ....
like parking lots and driving tests and small engines...... 1st gear is there for a reason...
