This is one of the saddest days in my life. The insurance today told me my dog was totaled. Here's the story:
It was a nice day that Saturday, a little cold so I put on my leather claps to take a ride. My bike, a 2007 K9, been sitting for awhile and was dying to get out and play. The bike started without issue and I let her warm up about 2 minutes and hopped on and was off. Ahhhhh, the parkway was somewhat empty the early afternoon as I got to open her up going into the first turn. But hmmmm, my left leg felt wet, what give??? I looked down and seen gas linking out and spraying in the air wetting my leg. I pulled over to check to see what was causing this and seen that the additional gas filter that I was talked into putting on the bike was linking the gas out. Now it's made of glass to see thru but the glass wasn't broken. So being only about 2 miles from home I turned around and started back home. I got caught at a light so turned the gas off until the light changed. As I was pulling away the bike shutdown so at that point I turned the gas back on and cranked her back up and pulled away. As I was making the left turn I could hear people yelling at me "YOUR BIKE IS ON FIRE!!!!!" I looked and seen flame looking from the left side of the motor. At that point due to the fact I wasn't going that fast I jumped off the bike and just let her go. People were still yelling at me but this time they said "YOU'RE ON FIRE!!!!!" I looked down and sure enough my left leg was on fire. I tried to pat it out and that was no good so I hit the ground and rolled. Someone brought me a bucket of water and I put it on my leg. Lucky I had on the leather claps, cause I wasn't burned but they were. I looked in the middle of the street and watched as my K9 burned. I would had taken the water to put the bike out but feared the tank would blow and it was full. So I waited for the fire department to come put it out. So the bike burned for about 5 to 6 minutes. The shop the bike was taken to estimated 17K in damages at a minimum. Today the insurance company told me they were going to total the bike and would give me just 19,631 - 500 deducible. NO MORE K9:-(
If you are interested I have a 2007 K9 Service Manual for sale and a set of Stainless Creation 2 into 1 exhaust system. Sorry I don't remember the model name but if interested I can send you a picture. I have a few other parts I'll be posting too.
