My brother put his in an old shed that had some corn in it. When he took it out of the shed the mice had literally filled the motor up with shelled corn. He had to have the motor torn down to get it out.

Ironically a stray cat has been wandering around my yard just this past week. I think this is a sign from the Big Dog gods.
Feed it cat treats not cat food you want it coming back. Make a kitty door. Start training it that it's h/er home. Show it the litter box in the shed in some corner. Get a pillow or some cat bed and opposite that corner with it. Feed it in the shed. It is now its turf.

Ever see a cat smell everything thinking its turf was soiled with ____ Fill in the blank? You gotta bet I park a museum piece in there, that cat is going to know rat me mice is nice kitty...

I use one of these when not parked in the house. Have one for the Corvette also.
I just found out that the new hybrid SUV I bought has soy based wire coverings. Critters love to chew them. I have five traps in my garage now and run my trap line everyday.bubble.jpg

:agree: I'm a firm believer in these also, I have these boxes at every corner in my basement and both garages for over 40 yrs, good thing about d-con is it dries them up so they don't stink when they die. When you do find them they're like a fury mouse chip. It works great on voles also. Those pesky little predators need to stay outside cause coming in is fatal, I don't need a house fire if they chew thru a wire and destroying property and costing huge repair bills like the OP for the small price of d-con.

had a friend with a quad in a shed like that. i don't know WTF the mice were thinking but they got as high up as the air box just off the carb and the thing went on fire. no shit. all kinds of grass and stuff in there,
maybe try heavy duty foil. it'll blow right off first time you start it up. or just start the bike and run it in the closed shed for a half hour. or this...........

Interesting resurrected thread. For those that don't know, I'm a licensed wildlife rehabilitator. I advise people all the time about stuff like this. First, steel wool or Brillo pads in openings that you don't want mice to pass thru is recommended because they are unable to chew through it. Rodents dislike the smell of peppermint, so rags with peppermint oil is a good thing to place around. Second, yes, rodents love the safety and warmth of a car engine or house attic and they will chew wires in those places that they are making their home but the odds of them randomly chewing bike wires would be slim. And finally...and this is huge....DO NOT use poison!! God put predators on this earth to kill prey and all poisoning does is kill those predators, which will in the end, compound the problem. I'm talking about foxes, owls, hawks, eagles, bobcats, etc. (and even dogs and cats) dying from second hand poisoning because they were just doing what they were put on this planet to do. Ingesting poison causes the need to go out searching for water and catching prey that is slowly and painfully dying from poison is an easy target for predators. I see the horrible death that second hand poisoning causes in wildlife all the time, and if you don't care about wildlife, I can tell you about the heart-wrenching deaths of a friend's 2 dogs.
