Modifying a stock '09 Ridgeback seatpan

Has anyone tried modifying the seat pan on a stock ridgeback seat? I would like to remove some material just behind the metal hook if possible.. I am aware of the chopper shox thread and I plan on getting one of those set up for my bike but I would like to be able to go back to the stock seat if need be.
