List of Service "Must Haves"

I dont know if this is the right section, but I'll suggest it anyway. I'm so use to LDO moving me all around the board, I dont even get dizzy anymore (just kidding LDO). Anyway, I read a lot of the posts on this board, and I see so many things that I probably should mention to my dealer to check, when I take it in, especially while still under warranty. I'm sure they check everything, but I would still like to be knowledgeable enough, with a list of things to mention to the mechanics. I know there are different sections here, but it would be nice to have a list on one thread, and one section, to make a copy of to take to the dealer to ask them about. For instance, I just read about the voltage regulators on one thread. And I read about the EHC on a thread. I would like to see a 1 thru 20 (example) of things to make sure the dealer checks. I hope I'm making sense and hope you guys help me out here. LDO, I apologize if this should be in another thread (probably service), but I'm not smart enough to ask the mechanics if somethings been checked, and if its running good. Thank you guys and gals. For service stuff... just refer to your owns manual.

All you have to do is call BD and give them your VIN and they can tell you what has and has not been done as far as Recalls.

To be honest with you, considering the last time you went to your dealer (and they screwed up your carb), I wouldn't tell them to mess with anything except what you're having problems with.

Otherwise, like Gas said, use your owners manual for the periodic maintenance stuff. I'm sure some of the more technical guys will post up a list for ya!

That is another problem LDO is bringing up. if you don't trust the dealership, the check list is endless... basically anything they COULD have touched!

I talked with one of the mechanics from my dealership today, and he was so helpful, and wanted me to bring it back in to get it running great. he also said he would be more than happy to show me some basic bike maintenance, so I'm lucky to have them. I just didnt understand how my bike could be running great one day, and pretty bad the next. They seem to understand that if your bike isnt running good, you dont feel good. I'm positive they will get my bike running great.

Yeah if you don't have confidence in the dog, its a ruff feeling... I've been there before.

On top of learning alot from the more expierenced guys around the forums, I was able to shadow and work on my own bike at the dealership for my 2500 service. That was the kick I needed get me over my fear of working on the bike. Had worked on many many jap bikes and of coarse cars. But I needed the extra bit to convert to v-twins.

Rowdy, if you see something that you think might need to be addressed at the dealer. Star a list and when you go there just hand it to them and tell them that you want all these things looked at or corrected. That's the easiest way and you won't forget. Post and topics will come up here and there and there isn't really a place to put them unless you sticky the subject. But what is a recall on your bike might not be for someone elses.

Seems like a lot of us are having the same kind of problems. The coughing, decel popping, dieing at the light, hard to start, etc... Mine was perfect, until I took it in for the 2500 mile check up. Can someone make one list of what we need to tell the dealer to do and to check for? Like

1. check the jets
2. check the idle
3. blah, blah blah
4. have them test the air/exhaust mixture ( or whatever its called)

The main guy at my dealership said next time I bring it in, he's going to put something in the exhaust to measure the air/something mixture.
And this time, I'm taking mine in about two minutes before they close, so when they start it the next morning, they will see what I go through when the bike is cold. Seems like everytime I bring the bike in, its not having any problems like it was when I first fired it up. Its like going to the doctor for a pain, and when you see him, the pain is gone, and when you go home, the pain starts again. thats always my luck. Is it possible for everyone who suggest's something about this problem, to cut and paste their suggestion, that way we have one post with all of the suggestions , 1 through whatever? If this isnt possible, then I will go through all the threads, make a list of everyone's suggestions, and make one post with all your idea's. actually , that may be easier than to cut and paste. I'm thinking out loud.

Great Idea Rowdy!!

Good idea tracking all the things we have problems with on the dogs - makes for a great FAQ section. Consider yourself lucky, blessed what have you if you have a good reliable dealer with experienced wrenches - I bet for many of us the dealer sucks which forces us to do it ourselves and fixed what they messed up.

Example:

Exhaust Problems - The flange bolts were lose on mine the day I picked it up
Lose Parts - Out of habit (seeing how its my ass on the seat) I check every nut and bolt (dealer doesn't)
Tire Pressure - Mine was never checked for pre-delivery by the dealer (10lbs low rear, 8lbs low front)
Carb Sneeze - Wrong jet for FL, I had to fix this myself (dealer useless, said they all sneeze and cough)
Tire Vibrations - Get with bdmridgeback for the ceramic beads as they are bound to be out of balance
