Know of anyone who has used their CCW for good?

There are a lot of threads on here about people's preference for weapon of choice for CCW. I've had mine for about seven years now and, thankfully, have never needed to use it. However, and I hope the answer is 'no' but, has anyone ever needed to protect themselves with their piece or know of someone who did? We all know about the cases in Florida, etc., but I'm talking on a more local, personal level. These stories would be very interesting.

Happy New Year, everyone.

i never have, but with the cwp comes a heightened awareness of your surroundings which tend to keep you out of trouble and situations where you could get hurt. it is called responsibility.

with the cwp, just because you have one and carry, it doesn't mean you WANT to shoot somebody.

let's hope we never have to but if we do, we are ready.

YES!
Incident #1: Pulled up to a red light and had a guy run up to my car with the most likely intention of jerking me out of my car and stealing it. As he grabbed my door handle, I put my Colt .45 in his face, at that instance he lost all intent to do harm. No shots fired, nobody injured, just a "attitude adjustment" that might have a long term impact on his behavior. If he had so much as touched me, I would have busted his head like a ripe melon.

Incident 2: While walking to the parking garage one night, I saw a guy just standing on the sidewalk in my path. He was very intently staring at me so I decided to cross the street and walk the sidewalk on the other side rather than pass him. When I stepped out into the street he came out in a intersect path to cut me off. At that same moment I realized that another dude was sneaking up behind me. Stopping in the center of the road, I flipped back my jacket and let them gaze upon my Colt .45. Again, I was instantly removed from their "EasyTarget List", and again there were no shots fired and nobody injured on either side. Had I been a vigilante, I would have killed all three of these worthless pieces of shit and done society a favor. But being a law abiding citizen, I merely exercised my right to defend myself.
Bad people(wolves) only prey on the weak(sheep), they don't want to mess with the "sheepdog" that is willing and capable of killing their sorry ass.

I agree with Woodbutcher, and want to add that if you choose to carry, taking some training classes should be mandatory. Think of it as a driver ed class for your side arm. Thank God I've never had to pull mine, but there has been several times I've been glad it was there, and only once have I had to make it known to the other person that it was there.

I have had my CCW for 3 years now, carry on the job as a first responder in casino security, and also carry when off except where prohibited such as any state, federal, or municipal property as mandated by law.
In order to get the permit I had to take a one day class which educates on the do's and dont's.
To those that had to either show or draw your weapon on any occasion I can tell you even if you DON'T use it, when doing so ALWAYS contact law enforcement and inform them of your actions immedietly to cover your ass.
The bad guy may call them and report that you pulled your weapon on them, then it's your word against theirs.
There is a risk of having your CCW revoked in that instance even though you felt a fear for your safety and you were in the right because you did not inform the authority's of the action you took and why. :2thumbs:

One time many years ago I was out on my motorcycle on the highway.
A car was trying to run me off the road. I sped up to get away and he chased me. He caught up again because I was not going to continue to race away as it would be too dangerous.
When he got next to me he tried to force me off the side again.
I hit the breaks hard and he kept going.
I pulled off the the side of the road to give plenty of time as to not encounter him again.
Some time went by, he must have circled around because he pulled past me again and pulled over about 50' in front of me while I was sitting there.
As he walked up to me he was yelling at me. I swung my jacket aside and put my hand on my firearm.
He shut his mouth and turned around. I unholstered my firearm as I still didn't know his intentions.
He got in his car and drove off.
To this day I believe he thought I was someone else. I am glad I was prepared.
It could have gone much worse.

It's a fine line between self defense and what some would call brandishing a weapon.

Spent the night at the shop after a long day. Woke up at 5 am to noise.
Looked outside and saw 2 guys working on the lock at the office supply store next to me.
I opened my door and pointed the Crimson Trace on my 9mm on the face of one of them.
Told them that fucking around here would only get them shot. Crimson is right the red dot lets them know right where it's going to hurt.
Knowing my neighbors door isn't worth it I told them to run before I changed my mind.
They did.

I got my first CWP in 1989. If I ever have to pull it, it will be to double tap a threat. A couple of times my shirt has "accidentally" lifted up showing what I was carrying, but that was all that was needed. My son however was one of those annoying guys in the mall trying to sell you a satellite dish, when a couple black gang bangers tried to give him some problems. They walked past him several times and even stood and watched him for a while to try and intimidate him. He said they were "throwing gang signs" at him and letting him know they were going to jump him. After the mall closed he was leaving and looked out the glass doors and they were standing there waiting for him pointing at him and shaking their heads. thankfully I trained him took him to get his carry permit and he was carrying even though the mall rules(not the law) disallowed it. He simply lifted up his shirt tucked it behind his gun and walked out the door. They began to approach him but seen the gun and walked away. You never want to use it but you better be ready if needed!:flag:
