K9 Final Drive Belt Damage

I am servicing my K9 and I noticed the damage shown in the photo to my final drive belt. I did not hear or feel this happening. It could be because I am old and deaf from riding this thing. My ass was probably numb and I probably lost feeling in my hands. Go figure? The wear is on the outboard top side of the belt. It is approximately 3/16" across the top of the belt and about 1/2 way through. I taped a 1/4 x 20 nut to the belt where it was worn and turned it through the transmission drive pulley area and it cleared and didn't hang up on anything. I don't recall that the clutch ball ramp cover bolts were in a position to do this if they vibrated out. I do use small screw loctite on them but there is a lot of grease in this area when it is assembled. I did order a replacement belt from Curtis. Any other thoughts out there?

Well John you're pic did not show up. Something like a stone could have gotten stuck some place and wore on it or it could be like us,old and tired and it just gave up the ghost. Another unluckily lucky situation that you found it at home rather than have it fly off when you are away. now you got a job to do.

I think just to see how much clearance there is. That's an expensive repair if he can't do it himself.

Now I understand lol pic worth a thousand words lol.

I'd check those bolts for the chain guard there are 2 of them that connect to the actuator covering that back side. Maybe it's gone now and that's why the nut never made contact?? Other than that or a rock or something not much else I can think of.

That's a pretty clean line and even area cut out. Not likely a stone to be that smooth and clean.

Belt will probably last a while as long as the rubbing is fixed but it sure looks like crap

John, Pull your belt cover and see if the belt is eating into the cover.

Mine did that and I noticed that my trans bearings were going south, allowing the main shaft to pivot under power.

Either way pull that cover and see what's happening.
