Here I was out for a new years day ride.I was passing 8 bikes looking good and strong and then all of a sudden a pop noise and bike quits moving.so I coasted behind the other bikes, now not looking good anymore,LOL.The clutch lever is loose no pull and bike wont engage a gear,no move.So lucky I was with other riders,my buddy came back sat on side of road with my bike and I rode his back home and got truck and trailer.
Its Sunday time for teardown in garage, took primary and clutch off and
3 inches of the Mainshaft comes out with clutch basket.yep mainshaft broke off.
Well trans is now out of bike, gee 30 min more engine can be out also.lol.
called Baker this morning and talked to techinal about parts and not a problem. The part I dont understand is that he said there has not been much problem with mainshafts breaking and that there is no updated mainshaft and that they are all hardened. But there are several posts on here about a updated hardened mainshaft.anybody have some info please chime in.

I know when I had my tranny rebuilt. Andrew"bigdogtech1" said there is a "updated" main shaft. Runs about $175. I would say you will have to go thru a dealer to get it. At that time it was on backorder. There has been many with the main shaft snappin.:bang::angry: Thats gotta suck but you have a good attitude about the issue. Which K-9 the 06' OR 07'. Let me guess the 06'.

had same thing happen to me last year, main shaft broke on way home from ocean city, I call baker and explained what happen, after some talk they agree that it shouldn't have. at that time baker only charged $50.00 labor rate, I sent into baker and they rebuild and I even talked them into a 1 year warranty parts and labor, and they agreed to eat some of the cost, I ended up paying about $400.00 including frt. they were pretty good to me. If this is a 06 - K9 they did have some bad trans. shafts and they no it just hard to get them to admit it.

Send it back to Baker, I just did this with a K9 trans. They were great to work with, and had it back to me in a week. Very reasonable on parts and labor and no need to fight with BD in the middle.

It was the 06 k-9 that broke. I now have taken trans apart,This is not a big deal for me,My career field is Automatic and standard transmission rebuilding.I have rebuilt many standard transmissions in my time,I had this apart in 30 min.It is a simple trans.I will call Baker today or tomorrow and get parts coming.I was going to send to them but I could not resist taking it apart.all the gears are good, did not run out of oil,has some wear on shift forks,so i will order new forks, mainshaft, bearings and gasket & seal kit.

Bert stands behind his product. We met him this summer at a Harley dealership when presenting his 7 speed. Glad to live only 45 minutes from him. He said if anything ever went wrong to bring it on down and he'd make it right. :2thumbs:

I'd double check on the main shaft. I ordered a hardened one about a year ago through Iron Lightning.
